Matt1: Very nice Hounder!

Rush: “The Landini Murder Case: Too Many Suspects…”

Rush: That’s GREAT, Hounder!

MikeB: My first fascination with this genre started with a movie called, the Bitter Tea of General Yen. My father had a also few movies with James Lee Wong. And from there I discovered Charlie Chan.

Rush: Wonderful!

Matt1: That’s great, Mike

Rush: Nice route of discovery, mike!

MikeB: Have been a fan of Movie and TV detectives for a while now. Columbo is also classis of course

Rush: Thank you for sharing that!

Rush: Yes.

MikeB: classic

Rush: Indeed!

Matt1: Yep!

Rush: Tonight we will be watching, via our own DVDs, or the link above, “Charlie Chan at the Circus.”

hounder: btw rush.my sympathies on the painting you’ve done and have yet to do. it took 3 coats of Kilz to cover some ugly peach paint in mom’s room today.

MikeB: Warner Oland is my favourite Charlie Chan so looking foward to tonights showing

Matt1: FUN film!

Rush: 90 seconds to go…

Rush: 10…

Rush: 5…

Rush: GO!!!

Rush: Intro music….

Rush: Announcer….

Rush: During this lengthy music, commercials would be played.

Rush: So, the audience didn’t hear all that we are hearing.

Rush: There will be a recap of the story thus far…

Rush: This story is taken from “Keeper of the Keys” by Earl Derr Biggers.

Rush: The murder has already happened.

Rush: (The first 10 episodes of this drama series are missing.

Rush: But we have the rest through the conclusion.

mda19083: hopefully there were no essential clues in the first 10 episodes

Rush: I don’t think so.

mda19083: CC doesn’t need clues

Rush: The first episodes forobaly served to introduce characters, etc.

Rush: MDA: 🙂

Rush: If anyone here is not yet receiving our weekly email “newsletter,” please feel free to send a message to: charliechanfamily2yahoo.com

Rush: Oh, my swelling head….

mda19083: thanks Rush

mda19083: TYSM

Rush: Very welcome!

Rush: Ah Sing.

Rush: All characters come from the Biggers story.

Rush: And, this mystery pretty closely follows biggers’ storyline.

sarabell2: Have you read the books?

Rush: Yes.

sarabell2: I figured you had. I will have to find them if I can.

Rush: They are a good foundation for watching the movies.

Rush: You can find them all over the Internet.

mda19083: radio landini follows CC Carries On book?

sarabell2: OK thanks. I will probably picture Warner Oland in the books.

Rush: We also have slightly abridged online copies here at this site at our “Charlie Chan Links” section.

Rush: Yes, sarabell!

sarabell2: OK, thank you so much.

Rush: I believe that Roland Winters used the books to help him form his “take” on the charater.

hounder: so sb, you favor oland’s vision of chan?

sarabell2: I do. He has a sweetness about him. But I love them all. Except Ross Martin. But that goes without saying. Love him but that was terrible.

Louise has joined this room

MikeB: That was fun. “Luck & opportunity alone are not the foundation of success. Succes is child born of hard work and comes to men that work calmly and well and knows for what he is working.”

Rush

sarabell2: One played his daughter, I commented on her beauty on Youtube and her son wrote me I will try to find her name. She played his daugther in several movies then quit to have a family and died not too long ago

Rush: Florence Ung: Number One Chan Daughter

Phil & Mrs. Phil: Who are you referring to sarabell?

Rush: I would guess that we see Keye luke’s hand signing the autograph!

sarabell2: Oh I knew I would get in trouble let me find her.

Rush: Shia Jung: Su Toy

Rush: Yes!

DanVenture: I wonder if there was a message along with Chan’s signature in that book?

DanVenture: Seems our family is growing just like Charlie’s!

Phil & Mrs. Phil: Hi MikeB and Zoe too!

Rush: I am guessing that the circus’ “take” was $26.80 and NOT $2, 680!

Louise: Goin’ bad in the big tent: my new motto

mda19083: CC was gifted his tickets

Rush: The key was picked up.

Rush: Yes, MDA.

Rush: It would not hurt to have CC and Family visit your circus!

mda19083: the take would have been higher

Nothere: Sorry Rush but lik I said. You comp Charlie’s whole family it’s 2680

PaulM has left this room

Nothere: 2k even

Rush: YES, NT!!!

MikeB: look for the shoes of the one that picked up the keys and you have your suspect

mda19083: good publicity though

sarabell2: You are a good detective MikeB

Nothere: Of course only the shoes would be heel enough for this crime.

mda19083: or he has seen the movie before

Phil & Mrs. Phil: I recall seeing two different shoes in that scene, not three.

MikeB: no, not seen before.

Rush: My ancient joke…..

Rush: John Aasen: Tower the Circus Giant

Rush: He was an actual circus giant.

MikeB: “more than one to remove skin from cat”

MikeB: *way

mda19083: body count 1

Phil & Mrs. Phil: Cue the can!

Matt1: <tin can>

Rush: “[This] film was shot “on location at the Al G. Barnes winter quarters,” and a Motion Picture Herald pre-release article states that “the Barnes Circus [was] used as a background for production settings.” In a mid-1980s interview, Keye Luke mentioned that the winter home of the circus used in the film was in the eastern Los Angeles community of El Monte.”

Nothere: Quick everyone lunge at the camera for no reason.

Rush: Blame it on Caesar….!

Phil & Mrs. Phil: TYSM Matt

Rush: Yes….TYSM, Matt….

mda19083: good going lee

Rush: Where are the Royal Bengal Tigers?

Nothere: India?

Rush: Su Toy is in their cage…

Rush: Caesar wants to play….

Nothere: So this guy decides to wrestle a gorillia….Dude is your name Tarzan?

Phil & Mrs. Phil: I doubt three men could manhandle a go-rilla.

Rush: That was pretty good on his part!

Rush: Yes. he would need to be pretty strong to do that!

Rush: Lt. macy.

Rush: Chan will watch all this with fatherly amusement.

Louise: AAHHHGHHHH

Nothere: Is there anyone not sneaking around this circus?

Matt1: Too funny

Rush: Chan REALLY likes THIS part!

Rush: Yes!

Rush: Lee remembers Su!

PaulM has joined this room

Louise: Judge: Mama!

Rush: Family encourages Pop to take the case.

Rush: “Judge” says YES!

mda19083: yes mrs chan

mda19083: here come the alibis

Rush: No one liked kinney.

mda19083: kinney was a heel

Phil & Mrs. Phil: The go-rilla was an escAPE artist.

Rush: note how chan allows Macy to think this is Macy’s idea!

Rush: Great strategy!

mda19083: why didn’t i think of that

hounder: chrlie’s good at making people think his idea is theirs

Rush: ðŸ™‚

Nothere: Mrs. Chan wasn’t in many films, but we all know who ran that house. Somone check the gorilla cage for a skeleton key.

mda19083: brush off #2

Rush: My guess is that we are at Flagstaff, AZ, and the overnight train travels to Albuquerque, NM.

Nothere: Charlie is good at making people think an idea is theirs. Glad I thought of that:)

Rush: Yes!

Nothere: I bow to Rush’s railroad expertise.

Phil & Mrs. Phil: We were onboard that Amtrak train 3 years ago Rush.

mda19083: johnny on the spot

hounder: someone had to keep the fmily in line.

Rush: Just a lot of thinking and looking at maps!

Phil & Mrs. Phil: The train actually broke down in Alburquerque for 4 hours.

Rush: Seems to work out.

Phil & Mrs. Phil: Train travel is SO cool!

Rush: In my case, of course, it’s “thinking.”

Nothere: I think you think good thogughts

Rush: I try…often fail!

Rush: I try to out-do the proverbial clock and, perhaps be right…three times a day.

Rush: The stopped clock, of course.

Nothere: The snake says. What the heck? Why was I shoved in this..oh soft and warm.

Rush: Yes, NT.

mda19083: good shot lee

Rush: great shot, Lee!

Nothere: What you thought all that finger gun earlier was for show?

Louise: Who’s on first?

Rush: Someone needs to clean the mess from chan’s room.

mda19083: nice one louise

Rush: REAL gun this time!

Phil & Mrs. Phil: Someone needs to plug the bullet hole in the wall

Nothere: Louise. Yes.

Rush: Finger model was only a rehearsal!

Nothere: Nice thing about elephant mover …come on you all know the punchline.

Rush: Lee’s “stuck,” in more ways than one!

Phil & Mrs. Phil: Work’s for peanuts.

mda19083: ðŸ™‚

Nothere: And the Phil’s win the banana. Now you just have t get it from Caesaer.

Phil & Mrs. Phil: Toast and cigar smoke…D LISH!

Nothere: Don’t forget the soup.

Rush

PaulM has left this room

Nothere: See told you Ceaser had the banana.

mda19083: beware the ides of march

Nothere: Ah but who had the safe?

Louise: Fiancee business

Rush: That policy would be worth about a million today.

Phil & Mrs. Phil: By any chance did anyone watch “Sunset Boulevard” on TCM last night?

Nothere: A million? Nope no motive here. Move along.

mda19083: yes – the butler did it

Nothere: Nopwe sorry Phil’s didn’t see it.

Phil & Mrs. Phil: They had a dead chimpanzee in it. Rather odd.

mda19083: max the butler was creepy

Nothere: Time for his close up.

Phil & Mrs. Phil: Creepy is one word for it.

mda19083: great move though

Rush: didn’t see it, phil.
