Dona: No, Have been in New Mexico since last Wednesday. I just go back this morning.

Hawaii_Steve has joined this room
Matt1: I’ve done that cruise. VERY interesting
Rush: 5 minutes in length.
Matt1: Alohaaaaa, Steve!
Hawaii_Steve: Hawaii_Steve did what? The nerve !!!
Rush: Aloha to you, steve!
Matt1: Shhhh, Steve’s here
Rush: I was just mentioning the extras you sent us to see!
Hawaii_Steve: Aloha from the land of Chan.
Dona: Hello Steve
Hawaii_Steve: Matt, I’m watching you. Behave.
Hawaii_Steve: Hello everybody.
Rush: Swaying palms…trade winds,….warm sand on the beach….
Hawaii_Steve: Today is exactly what you described Rush.
Rush: Typical day in PARADISE!
Rush: Since the extras total about 7 minutes, we can share them a little later as a few more arrive!
Matt1: Sounds good
Mike n Rachel in DC has joined this room
Hawaii_Steve: Rush, short subjects, indeed.
Matt1: Hello M & D!
Rush: The 1939 short is perfect!
Mike n Rachel in DC: Good evening all
Hawaii_Steve: Author Ken Hanke says kind words about tonight’s film.
Rush: it’s a really nice intro to the situation where our movie takes off!
Hawaii_Steve: Aloha Mike n Rachel.
Rush: I would agree with him!
Dona: Hi MnR
Hawaii_Steve: Yes, Rush.
Hawaii_Steve: It appears that the last two Fox Chans are a prelude to America’s involvement in WW2.
Rush: This is also another of those films where we learn a few facts…in this case, about the Canal.
Rush: Yes, Steve.
Rush: Things were certainly heating up.
Rush: War in Europe was spreading, Japan rumbling in the Pacific.
Hawaii_Steve: Yes, Rush. But today, we are so far removed from the events of that time, we have the selected to bring us up to date. So to speak.
Mike n Rachel in DC: This was about the time my father was drafted into the Army.
Rush: Yes, Mike?
Mike n Rachel in DC: He finished his basic training on Dec. 7, 1941
Hawaii_Steve: This film is also the last Chan to be directed by Norman Foster. After this Chan, he went to work for Orson Welles.
Rush: My dad had joined the FBI in 1940, and that was were he was during the war.
Mike n Rachel in DC: He was in California…they had their “graduation” and immediately found out that Pearl Harbor was being bombed.
Rush: Good info, Steve.
Hawaii_Steve: Both my dad and grandfather served in the US Navy during the war, but at different locations.
Dona: So interesting. Thank you all of sharing.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Yes. Very few of his “classmates” survived until 1945.
Rush: My uncle was in the Army in San Francisco, and was immediately sent ober to Ft. Derussy in Honolulu.
Hawaii_Steve: Mike, where was your father’s basic training? Location please?
Mike n Rachel in DC: La Jolla, CA
Rush: There was still smoke in Pearl harbor as his ship arrived.
Rush: I used to work in La Jolla!
Mike n Rachel in DC: We have a connection. 🙂
Rush: Beautiful area.
Hawaii_Steve: From a historical p.o.v., there so many interesting tidbits about the attack at Pearl Harbor.
Rush: Yes, Steve.
Mike n Rachel in DC: He always talked about how beautiful it was and what great weather there was. (We lived in Michigan, so the nostalgia was strong!)
Hawaii_Steve: Did you know that the Arizona burned for several days. It just wasn’t on Dec. 7th.
Rush: yes, Mike! Understood!
hounder has joined this room
Dona: Hello Hounder
Matt1: Hello Hounder!
hounder: hi everyone.
Rush: You mean it burned for days AFTER the attack, of course!
Mike n Rachel in DC: Hi hounder!
Hawaii_Steve: Rush, when your uncle arrived at Pearl, yes, there was still smoking (and fire) in the harbor.
Rush: But, yes, my uncle mentioned that to me once.
Hawaii_Steve: Yes, indeed. It did. According to local historians here on Oahu.
Rush: Marie’s grandfather was in the Navy and was in San Diego with his family when the attack happened. marie’s grandmother shiowed us where everyone oas in her kitchen when the news hit the radio,
Hawaii_Steve: Aloha Hounder.
Rush: WELCOME, Hounder!!!
Rush: How are you tonight?
hounder: pretty good. tired tonight so may not make the whole movie. but laptop’s fixed.
Matt1: Good news Hounder!
Rush: Happy about the laptop, and I hope that you will be able to remain.
Hawaii_Steve: Because of media technology (i.e. radio, telegram, telephone), news moved slower than it does today.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Don’t forget Jimmy’s carrier pigeons, Steve. 😉
hounder: My grandmother’s birthday was 12/7. I always thought it would be a hard day to have a birthday because it was always a rememberance day for pearl harbor
Rush: our first extra runs about 2 minutes. It shows how the Panama canal works, through moving diagrams. interesting, and TYSM, to Steve! There could ve a commercial att he start that you can click out of after 5 seconds…
Hawaii_Steve: People on the neighbor islands did not know about the attack of Dec 7th for a couple of days. The military shut down the telephone calls from civians.
Rush: Here is the address: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NwvCj9CMuw
Rush: Please ready it and I will give a short countdown!
Matt1: Cued, after commercial
Rush: Please let me know when you are ready!

Foxxama & Angelzone: I’m warning my pupils. Have sunglasses right here.
Hawaii_Steve: I wonder if there is any trace of the gun foundation still left today?
Rush: I would imagine so, Steve.

Dona: I missed that Steve i’ll have to go back and find it.
Godwinshelley2: F&A – Yes I-95 is the BIG route for so many places on the coast

Rush: (“japanese” tones….)
Hawaii_Steve: Spies. Spies every where.
Dave: hello, phil and mas
Foxxama & Angelzone: The Panamanian authorities are missing a fine fat swag-op, every day they don’t get their big bauble The Canal into the Celebrity Endorsement game: Imagine them offering NAMING RIGHTS for the Canal’s famed LOCKS, to the famed names of security devices. A million a year to have “yours” designated: The Yale Lock…the Master Lock…Schlage Lock, and so on? You BETCHA they’d move! Two million for whatever could be called “premium”? Eastmost/westmost, biggest?
Rush: Yes, Steve.
Mike n Rachel in DC: A few photos for my cousin in Berlin
Phil & Mrs. Phil: Hi Dave; Hi M&R
Foxxama & Angelzone: WHACK!!

Louise: I suspect hubby is jealous of the attention I give all of you on Monday nights!
Mike n Rachel in DC: *cough*
Rush: Understood, Louise!
Hawaii_Steve: When the group goes to the Tropicana Night Club, look carefully for Desi Arnaz and Cesar Romero.
Dave: yup, louise
Foxxama & Angelzone: Phils, you are so right. The patsy here would still be with us if he wasn’t a Devil’s Leafer.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Really, Steve?
