Hawaii_Steve: It appears that the last two Fox Chans are a prelude to America’s involvement in WW2.
Rush: This is also another of those films where we learn a few facts…in this case, about the Canal.
Rush: Yes, Steve.
Rush: Things were certainly heating up.
Rush: War in Europe was spreading, Japan rumbling in the Pacific.
Hawaii_Steve: Yes, Rush. But today, we are so far removed from the events of that time, we have the selected to bring us up to date. So to speak.
Mike n Rachel in DC: This was about the time my father was drafted into the Army.
Rush: True.
Rush: Yes, Mike?
Mike n Rachel in DC: He finished his basic training on Dec. 7, 1941
Hawaii_Steve: This film is also the last Chan to be directed by Norman Foster. After this Chan, he went to work for Orson Welles.
Rush: My dad had joined the FBI in 1940, and that was were he was during the war.
Mike n Rachel in DC: He was in California…they had their “graduation” and immediately found out that Pearl Harbor was being bombed.
Rush: Good info, Steve.

Rush: WOW!
Hawaii_Steve: Both my dad and grandfather served in the US Navy during the war, but at different locations.
Dona: So interesting. Thank you all of sharing.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Yes. Very few of his “classmates” survived until 1945.
Rush: My uncle was in the Army in San Francisco, and was immediately sent ober to Ft. Derussy in Honolulu.
Hawaii_Steve: Mike, where was your father’s basic training? Location please?

Rush: There was still smoke in Pearl harbor as his ship arrived.

Rush: I used to work in La Jolla!

Mike n Rachel in DC: He always talked about how beautiful it was and what great weather there was. (We lived in Michigan, so the nostalgia was strong!)
Hawaii_Steve: Did you know that the Arizona burned for several days. It just wasn’t on Dec. 7th.

Rush: But, yes, my uncle mentioned that to me once.
Rush: Yes.
Hawaii_Steve: Yes, indeed. It did. According to local historians here on Oahu.
Rush: Marie’s grandfather was in the Navy and was in San Diego with his family when the attack happened. marie’s grandmother shiowed us where everyone oas in her kitchen when the news hit the radio,

hounder: My grandmother’s birthday was 12/7. I always thought it would be a hard day to have a birthday because it was always a rememberance day for pearl harbor

Hawaii_Steve: People on the neighbor islands did not know about the attack of Dec 7th for a couple of days. The military shut down the telephone calls from civians.
