Rush: But the second one I had was much better!

Rush: So, hopefully that will be your case too.

Matt1: Many shots the first time…..but at least he saved the tooth…..Was worried about that

Rush: Since I traveled, I need to serve a two week quarantine from my job.

Rush: I need to work via the Internet for two weeks.

Matt1: Ugh

Rush: The irony is that the places I visited are probably much safer than California!

Matt1: I can imagine

Matt1: Good trip though?

Rush: Oh well…we live in crazy…dark…times.

Rush: Starting to feel like cold war eastern europe.

Rush: Short-term antidote: Charlie Chan…

Rush: Beyond divided, sadly!

Rush: Stuff is being censored all over.

Atomant: Are you retiring there ?

sarabell2: I am in Atlanta, BTW. My neighbor is from Iowa. Lovely state.

Rush: A version of Inspector Duff also appears in several of the “New Adventures of Charlie Chan” TV drama.

Godwinshelley2: Atom – I was away getting tea when you mentioned you were almost a neighbor

Atomant: I thought so

Rush: I like to assume it’s Duff, JUNIOR on those shows!

Godwinshelley2: So I’m in Delaware

hounder: so lets add our fingerprints to he windows annd doors

Atomant: I should watch that series

Atomant: I get to OC a lot

Rush: “NO NO NO NO!”

Godwinshelley2: Of course that is in another state

hounder: regular tea or a flavored tea gs

Godwinshelley2: They aren’t “tax-free-delaware” as the commericals all call us

Godwinshelley2: decaf Green tea

Rush: This might be a good time for intros!

sarabell2: I wondered about that too,Atomant. was this his first crime scene?

hounder: sounds good gs

Rush: I am Rush from El Cajon (near San Diego)….

Godwinshelley2: No caffine near the evening

Godwinshelley2: Hello Rush

sarabell2: Thank you so much

Rush: nice hat on this gentleman!

Atomant: I’m Atom from Maryland DC area

Godwinshelley2: Atom – too much excitement in our areas lately

hounder: hat looks a little big for him

Atomant: lol yep

Rush: Yes, Hounder!

Rush: A bit, but a nice hat, still…on the right head!

Godwinshelley2: I used to live in Columbia, MD – before retiring here

Rush: Mr. decker.

Rush: A bit nervous…

Atomant: GS cheesecake factory

Godwinshelley2: Is it still open?

Atomant: I think so

Atomant: That place is always packed

Godwinshelley2: The only city with a mall for a downtown instead of a courthouse

Godwinshelley2: And NO cemeteries – when it was first built

Atomant: It’s gone downhill IMHO

Godwinshelley2: Very crowded – both housing and traffic – glad to not be there everyday

Rush: Sarabell, at this site, we have illustrated script presentations of all four “lost” Charlie Chan movies, including “Charlie Chan carries On” which we are watching in Spanish tonight.

Rush: Please take a look when you can.

Rush: I think you will enjoy.

Godwinshelley2: Sarabell – were you familiar with the early practice of making English speaking films TWICE – once in English and once in another language to sell overseas?

Rush: All suspects gathered…

sarabell2: Does Charlie show up or just in reference?

Godwinshelley2: He will be appearing soon

Atomant: Don’t take tips from skirts, wonder if that was accurate translation

Rush: Mr. Chan does appear later, as the tour reaches honolulu!

Rush: Just like in the book by Earl derr Biggers.

sarabell2: Yes I am pretty familiar with old movies. My grandson asked me was the world in color when I was little?

Rush: AA…that was pretty accurate!

Godwinshelley2: Ha! No we were all sepia colored back then

hounder: lol@ your grandson

Rush: He’s Max Minchin, a Chicago gangster-type!

Godwinshelley2: There are Laurel & Hardy films done in French – Karloff is in that one

sarabell2: I rung his little neck.

Godwinshelley2: Shame you can’t show your grandson a library card catalog and say this was your internet

Atomant: Haha

Rush: This version pretty closely mirrors the original “CC Carries On.”

Atomant: Movie ?

Rush: Yes.

sarabell2: Godwinshelley true.

Godwinshelley2: Rush are you recovered from your recent travels?

Atomant: When did you see it ?

Rush: Here’s a still from “CC Carries On” showing the scene we saw earlier….

Rush

Atomant: pretty cool

Godwinshelley2: nice

sarabell2: Thank you.

Dona: Nice Rush!

Rush: From our Gallery.

Rush: And, here’s the same couple as seen in “CC Carries On”…

DanVenture has joined this room

Rush

hounder: nice photos

hounder: i dan

Godwinshelley2: Hello Dan

Rush: WELCOME…DV!!!

Dona: Hi Dan

DanVenture: Indeed, indeed! Good evening!

Atomant: Hi Dan

Rush: I hope that all is well for you this evening, DV!

Godwinshelley2: Is that an aviator’s cap on that woman?

Atomant: Nice pics Rush TY

DanVenture: Good to see our family here again.

Rush: GS…a very stylish hat of the era!

DanVenture: And yes, still moving forward here with no illnesses. 🙂

Rush: Streamlined.

Godwinshelley2: Similar to the cloche from last week’s movie

hounder: maybe hats too big was the style then?

Rush: Very good to hear, DV!

DanVenture: And where are we, show wise?

Rush: maybe, Hounder!

Rush: You will notice how big Chan’s hat is in this film!

Rush: Wider brimmed.

sarabell2: OK now I see the hat. looks like an old motorcycle one

Rush: 🙂

Atomant: No panama ?

Rush: Not in this one.

Godwinshelley2: Was the Oland hat also that big in the English version too?

Rush: Black felt.

Rush: I’ll see if it shows in a Gallery image…

Rush: Doesn’t look that big in the one image we have…crowd scene…

Godwinshelley2: Sarabell – next week’s feature is a more traditional Chan film – I think it’s probably “Black Camel” – but check with Rush to be sure

Rush: However, looking at the illustrated script image of the hat which appears in one of the final scenes, the brim DOES look a bit larger than usual.

sarabell2: That is fine, I like this one. I like foreign films but do not hold that against me.

Rush: Correct, GS…Next week is “The Black camel.”

Rush: The second Chan film in the series proper.

Godwinshelley2: I’m a subtitle fan myself – partial to Japanese films

Rush: Nefarious hand at work…

Godwinshelley2: Interesting camerawork there

Rush: I think some of the footage we see, such as the hands and the gunshooting, were taken from “Charlie Chan carries On.”

Rush: Why would they need to re-shoot those segments.

Rush: The same is probably true for other scenes, inclusing stock travel footage that comes up.

DanVenture: GS: Me too on subtitles. Nothing like an evening with Yojimbo

sarabell2: I watched a very good Japanese murder mystery, can not think of the title.

Godwinshelley2: I’m more Tampopo or Mystery of Rampo

Rush: The Minchins are a part of the comedic element in this picture.

DanVenture: Ah, GS, a man of taste.

Rush: Also, later we see another, gentler, side of Max Minchin!

sarabell2: Boy she was asking to get killed.

DanVenture: Ok Rush, may I ask where we are video-wise?

Rush: Yes.

Godwinshelley2: 30:30

sarabell2: I am at the same

Godwinshelley2: Lag in posting time

Rush: Max Minchin was played in this movie by Raul Roulien, a well known performer of the time.

Godwinshelley2: There – she was shot

hounder: bang

Rush: Yes!

Matt1: <tin can>

Rush: Dead.

Rush: TYSM, Matt….

Rush: Sarabell, we have a “tradition” going back to another Chat Room which had sound effects available…

Rush: There was a tin-can sound that was used when a victim was killed…rather than “kicking the can”>1

Godwinshelley2: And, if you are not using your laptop to view the film (I use my dvds), you can turn the sound off

Rush: Stock footage here…

Godwinshelley2: Where was that shot

Rush: Train departure…

Godwinshelley2: Any idea which train

Rush: Travel shots coming…

Rush: Egypt…

sarabell2: OK I do not get the sound effects part but do not worry

Rush: Contantanople…

Rush: India…?

Rush: Hong Kong.

Godwinshelley2: Around the world shots

Rush: Yes.

Rush: funny dialog here!

hounder: quick shots showing progress of tous

Godwinshelley2: Fan is Japanese

Rush: YES!

Godwinshelley2: But they are in China

Rush: AND…later we hear Mrs. Chan saying goodbye to her husband in…JAPANESE!

Godwinshelley2: More Cloche hats

Rush: Yes…I supposed they hoped no one would notice!

DanVenture: Hmmmm…would the Mrs be Japanese then?

Rush: Funny lady!

Rush: Cute.

sarabell2: Does she say Sayonara (spelling)

hounder: is that a lamp stand?

Rush: YES!

Rush: Max isn’t happy having to carry all that around the world!

Godwinshelley2: A red bulb and a green bulb – just like a crosswalk

Rush: Important moment coming…

Rush: Yes, GS!

Rush: 🙂

hounder: starboard and port

sarabell2: Why can’t she just steal towels like No1 son?

Atomant: lol

Rush: YES, Sarabell!

Rush

Rush: She made a BIG mistake there!

Rush: Immediate repercussions!

Godwinshelley2: yikes

DanVenture: I swear that’s the intro to Hawaiian Eye with surfing…

Rush: Honolulu

Godwinshelley2: Yea!!

Rush: Surfers…

Rush: And… Charlie Chan!

Matt1: Pop!

Rush: Played here by Manuel Arbo.

Godwinshelley2: Rare to see him in “native” costume

Rush: Yes!

Rush: Duff is at Honolulu Police headquarters.

Rush: Actual rear shot of a Honolulu street.

Rush: Note the hat.

Dona: it’s not white

Rush: No

hounder: black belt looks funny with white suit

Godwinshelley2: Open window – ocean breeze – ease of access for murders

Rush: Yes.

Godwinshelley2: How many folks were shot/stabbed through that window?

Rush: SHOT!!!

sarabell2: He flinched before the shot

Godwinshelley2: The Feng Shua is all wrong – never put your back to the window

Rush: Duff…TWICE attacked through that window!

Godwinshelley2: You would think he would learn

Rush: Yes, GS!!!

Atomant: haha yes’

Dona: What did he through in

Dona: thorw

sarabell2: I would shut and lock all windows, I agree

Rush: The “Three Monkeys” clue.

Dona: throw

Dona: i don’t seem to be able to spell

Rush: Same here, usually, Dona!

Godwinshelley2: Could someone get some help for that poor guy

Dona: lol

Godwinshelley2: Hey – I’m bleeding here on the floor

Rush: YES! They left him on the floor!

sarabell2: LOL

Rush: Duuf reminds them!

Godwinshelley2: Well – maybe he just needs a bandaid

DanVenture: EGADS!

Rush: 🙂

Godwinshelley2: How inconsiderate – bledding all over Charlie’s rug

Godwinshelley2: No amubulance yet

sarabell2: Yes, one of those round bandaids for bullet wounds

Rush: Not yet!

Rush: Listen to Mrs. Chan say “Sayonara.”

Godwinshelley2: Were there different actors in the English version of Mrs Chan & son?

Rush: Number One Son.

Godwinshelley2: Adios! Pop

sarabell2: Good grief she sure did

Rush: Yes!

Rush: Again..I guess they thought no one would catch that!

Godwinshelley2: Do they ever mention is Duff makes it ok?

Rush: Chan addresses the gathered suspects…

Rush: I don’t want to give anything away….but…

Rush: He’s durable!

Dona: lol

Rush: By the way, Matt…TYSM for copying the chat dialogue while I was away!

Rush: I will get those posted.

Rush: “Gracias…muchicima.”

Rush: Important scene…

sarabell2: It’s funny Chan speaks halting English but fluent Spanish.

Rush: Another “Three monkeys.”

Godwinshelley2: Well – if they all leave their windows open on the ship – a quick toss would get it in to most of their rooms

Rush: Duff is well!

Godwinshelley2: yea!!! – of course you will never get that stain out of your rug

Rush: True, GS!

sarabell2: You can use resolve.

Rush: Glove!

Rush: Probably didn’t exist in 1931, Sarabell!

Godwinshelley2: It’s hawaii – why would you be wearing gloves

Rush: “He who waters the tree deserves the fruit.”

Rush

Atomant: Thank you , inetresting

Atomant: interesting

Rush: 🙂

Rush: Here’s another…

sarabell2: That is from the lost film? Looks like Oland

Rush

Rush: Correct, Sarabell!

Rush: Images from the “lost” film.

Rush: As seen in our script recreation.

Atomant: but you actually watched it ?

sarabell2: There may be copies in China, they showed the movies there. I sure wish.

Rush: No, but you can do the next best thing, by reading through our script reconstruction of “Cgharlie Chan Carries on” at this site!

Rushhttp://www.charliechan.info/id392.html

sarabell2: I am looking forward to it thank you.

Atomant: Okay Thank you

Rush: The killer should be narrowed down to the four men she saw earlier in Hong Kong.

Rush: One was Jim Maynard.

Godwinshelley2: Any idea if the English version Mrs Chan spoke english or Japanese in the goodbye?

Godwinshelley2: You don’t seem to have a credit for that actress on the gallery page

Rush: Funny/cute scene coming soon regarding the ship’s horn.

hounder: ..

Rush: In the Gallery I only use the characters’ names.

Rush: The otyher information can be found in the sections dedicated to each movie.

Godwinshelley2: Don’t you list the character/actors at the beginning

Rush: he just proposed…accidentally!

Godwinshelley2: I guess that was what I was looking at

Rush: But…what the heck!

Rush: 🙂

Rush: Chan is pleased….

Rush: This happens in several of his adventures!

Atomant: Not so with lovers

Rush: In fact…it happens next week as well!

Rush

Rush: The Oland version of the party.

Rush: Now we see the kinder side of Max!

Rush: “Raul Roulien (born Raul Entini Pepe Acolti Gil; October 8, 1905 – October 8, 2000) was a Brazilian actor, singer, screenwriter and film director. He is widely considered the first male Brazilian star in Hollywood.”

DanVenture: I wonder if the party song was different in the English version…

Rush: Yes, I am pretty sure this scene was extended to show the actor’s abilities!

Rush: “Dans Apache”
