Matt1: Hello Rush!

Rush: Good evening, Matt!

Rush: How are you tonight?

Matt1: Very good, thnx…..tourself?

Rush: Doing well, thank you. Both daughters stayed home from school today. Caught something.

Rush: Other than that…we are doing well!

Matt1: Ugh….I’m still not over my bug

Matt1: Hope they feel better soon

Rush: Sometimes those are tough to get rid of.

Rush: And the same to you.

hounder has joined this room

Matt1: Mine is just lingering

hounder: hi matt and rush

Matt1: Hello Hounder!

Rush: I usually catch “the cold” each year, as I am exposed to a lot as a teacher!

Rush: Good evening, Hounder!

Rush: Welcome to you!

Matt1: I would be constantly sick if we switched places, I’m sure

Rush: How are things for you, hounder?

Matt1: Quick question…..How do you post a picture here in chat room?

Rush: Okay…

Rush: First, you click on the picture you wish to share to get its address.

Rush: Save that…

Rush: Then click on the “picture” icon just above where we type in text.

hounder: ok. a little confusing as the washing machine quit. the guy came and was going to order the part to fix it. an email from Lowes says they’re sending me the purchase price. so does that mean he’s not going to fix it? of course customer service is closed when the email came and the have half of the nc address and the rest is the fl address. sigh

Rush: Place your cursor right between the two parts:

Rush: Post.

Matt1: Never easy, Hounder

Rush: And that is that!

Matt1: Hmmmm

Rush: Hounder, I think you pay for the part first, and then the tech comes out to make the repair.

Matt1: TYSM…..I’ll play with it

Rush: just a guess.

Rush:

Matt1: I must be signed in….Access Denied

Rush:

hounder: hopefully i’ll find out tomorrow.

hounder: cool pic

Rush: Where is the image you want to use?

Matt1: Classic era ending

Rush: (TYSM, Hounder!)

Matt1: I was going to post a Gong, rather than type

Matt1:

Rush: “Classic era ending?”AH!

Rush: As long as you have it ready to go ahead of the need for the gong.

Matt1: That was from last Chan, no?

Rush:

Matt1: That’s the one I saved!

Rush: AH!

Matt1: You’re goooood

Rush: If you right click on the image where you find it, you can “copy address.”

hounder: i think i’m ready here

Rush: Then paste it where the cursor lies after clicking on the picture icon.

Matt1: I think I need to be logged in here/registered, in order to post

Rush: I will get ready, too, Hounder…

Rush: AH, I see, Matt.

Matt1: When I tried it told me Access Denied

Rush: When logging in, click on the “Chatovod” icon.

Rush: Then you can “register”

Matt1: Ok….will try later.

Rush: Not a big lengthy thing.

Matt1: I’m cued for Buddha

Rush: Me too.

hounder: me 3

Rush: Let’s give it 60 seconds…just in case.

Matt1: btw, I may not be around next Monday…..Holiday party

Rush: 50 seconds…

Rush: 40 seconds…

Rush: 30 seconds…

Rush: 25…

Rush: 20…

Rush: 15…

Rush: 10…

Rush: 5…

Rush: GO!!!

Matt1: #2 of 2

Matt1: Nap music

Rush: Yes…soothing!

Matt1: Spa

Rush: I had to re-login.

Rush: I am caught up.

Matt1: Some commercial

Rush: Second gong…

Rush: “The Eye of Buddha” ruby.

Rush: Chan was also disguised as “Ah Kim” in “Charlie Chan’s Courgae.”

Rush: (Courage)

Rush: Lost film from 1934.

Rush: A subdued Charlie Chan.

Rush: “My unwealdy bulk.”

Rush: Love it!

Rush: Hear the flaw in the record?

Matt1: scratching,

Rush: Yes.

Rush: This would have been one of those oversize records used for radio broadcasts.

Rush: About 20 inches in diameter.

Matt1: Must have been fun to watch as observer

Rush: Make that 18…

Matt1: Lee Chan!

hounder: only 11 kids in this show

Rush: YES!

Rush: Well…this show was recorded in 1936.

Rush: That would be, actually, off by one.

Rush: The Chans had 12 in the movies by then.

Rush: The “11” number was surely taken from a Biggers book.

Rush: Lee!

Rush: Very “Americanized.”

Matt1: Not bad

Rush: “Lee” would come from the movies, not the Biggers books.

Rush: Agreed, Matt!

Rush: “Foo Wong.”

Rush: Case apparently solved by Lee.

Matt1: Again?

Matt1: A sinch

hounder: never heard that expression before “antelope’s adnoids”

Rush: Me neither!

Rush: A bit of alliteration!

Rush: well…the story may be continuing…but we lack “the rest of the story,’ sadly…

Rush: Only two episodes available.

Rush: Too bad. Lee appearing was unique and fun!

Rush: Commercial spot….

hounder: sad not to know how it ends.

Rush: I would venture a guess that Chan catches the bad guy(s) in the end!

Rush: 🙂

Matt1: Lucky guess

Rush: With Lee’s help, of course!

Rush: Yes, things in the Chan universe make sense.

hounder: good guess rush

Rush: 15 minutes until showtime!

Rush: Yes, Hounder!

Rush: 🙂

Matt1: Oh…..Noticed no Christmas lights at our main page?

Rush: As was the case last week, I could find no copies of tonight’s movie online.

Rush: They will go up tonight…he blushes…

Matt1:

jerseygirl has joined this room

Matt1: Hello NJ!

hounder: hi nj

Rush: Hello, JerseyGirl!

Rush: ELCOME!!

Rush: I saw you tried to join in earlier, or perhaps you tested to see if you could enter?

Rush: In either case…WELCOME!

PaulM has joined this room

Matt1: Hello Paul!

PaulM: hello

Louise has joined this room

Louise: Hi Gang!

Matt1: Hello Louise!

Rush: Hello, Paul and Louise!

Louise: Looking forward to our archaeological adventure

Rush: Good evening to you both!

hounder: hi paul and louise

jerseygirl: I’m new here. How do I get to watch “The Feathered Serpent” in a few minutes?

Godwinshelley2 has joined this room

Godwinshelley2: Hello all

Matt1: Hello GS!

Louise: I can’t believe we are at the end of the year: DVD #14 in the collection!

Rush: YES!

Rush: GS!

Matt1: This year has flown by

Rush: Good evening and welcome!

Godwinshelley2: Jersey Girl – sounds like this is one of those that you need your own DVD to watch – it’s not available online

Louise: Rush, what is the deadline to write something for that newsletter?

Godwinshelley2: There is a Chan Collection by Warner Archives that has 3 Chan films and that is one of them

Rush: Matt…the lights are now up at the old Charlie Chan Family Home. All’s now merry on Punchbowl Hill!

jerseygirl: Thanks.

Matt1: lol….TYSM!

Rush: Louise, if you hurry, you can get it to Lou in time.

Godwinshelley2: A lot of the films are available on-line – unfortunately not this one

Rush: i got mine to him just a few days ago!

Rush: As might be the case with you, December caught up with me!

Len Freeman has joined this room

Louise: I am thinking of doing an essay on Chan’s Women since I am currently editing a video on the same topic.

Rush: Correct, GS…sadly.

Rush: 5 minutes….

Matt1: Hello Len!

Rush: Please ready your personal copy.

Matt1: Cued here!

hounder: thank you rush

Louise: cued

Godwinshelley2: I’m cued here too

hounder: ready here

Len Freeman: Hi al… cued here

Godwinshelley2: jerseygirl – so this is your first visit – sorry you arrived on a non-on-line day

Rush: Hello, Len!

Len Freeman: Where R U from in Jersey?

Rush: ood evening!

Rush: )GOOD)

Len Freeman: Hi Rush

hounder: hi len

Len Freeman: Hi h

Rush: Sorry about the typos! I was readying my movie!

Len Freeman: well I’m still in one hand mode…

Rush: Yes?

Godwinshelley2: Louise – have you every played the card game Loveletter?

Rush: Not for too much longer, I hope.

jerseygirl: I’m not clear on this at all. Are we supposed to be watching a disc of this film simultaneously at our individual homes because it can’t be streamed? I certainly don’t have access to “The Feathered Serpent” at my place

Louise: No GS. What is it about?

Len Freeman: broke a bone in left thumb 3 weeks ago.. hopefully cast off this week

Rush: 90 seconds to showtime…!

hounder: yes jg

Godwinshelley2: JG – usually you can cue up the on-line film – otherwise you cue up your personal disk

Louise: GS: I just ordered the Salvador Dali tarot cards!

hounder: usually we can stream the movie from the net

Rush: 75 seconds…Okay…we will hold up the movie for Jerseygirl.

Godwinshelley2: Louise – was thinking about maybe reworking Loveletter into a Chan mystery card game

Rush: Let’s take our time tonight and help her out.

Len Freeman: HI Jersey ..we usually can download and watch online… but some films aren’t up there. but all the films are available in DVD setts

Godwinshelley2: Nice – are the Dali cards along the Rider Waite styling?

Rush: The movie is only 60 minutes long tonight, anyway!

Rush: 🙂

Louise: Yes GS. Just released last month

Rush: JerseyGirl, do you have a copy of “The Feathered Serpent”?

Godwinshelley2: Wow will have to check them out – I had to put a stop to my random purchasing of Tarot card decks – a girl really only needs a couple

Len Freeman: We then chat online but watch our own copies at the same time at home

Louise: Short one, Rush. Let’s see if my husband can restrain himself from calling during it!

Rush: By the way..welcome, again, as our Honored Guest, as this is your first visit!

Rush: We shall see, Louise!

jerseygirl: OK, now I understand. Nice to meet you folks.

Louise: Hi jerseygirl. Where in Jersey are you?

Rush: And YOU, JG!

hounder: and you too jg

Godwinshelley2: You are welcome to stick around and see how the chat goes if you like – or drop in next week

Louise: Yes, watch how we say weird things!

jerseygirl: Ever hear of Bayonne?

Rush: Yes, please stay on, as we ramble a lot during the movie!

Rush: So…

Louise: Did I miss the countdown?

Rush: We can resume the countdown?

Godwinshelley2: yes

Rush: say…

Len Freeman: Yup,…. I used to live in Maplewood

Rush: 45 seconds…

Rush: 40 seconds…

Rush: 30 seconds…

Rush: 25…

Louise: I’m in Belmar

Rush: 20…

Rush: 15…

Rush: 10…

Rush: 5…

Rush: GO!!!

Matt1:

Rush: Title and music…

Godwinshelley2: Credits over a temple from Mexico

Rush: Credits….

Godwinshelley2: Featuring KEYE LUKE

Rush: Aztec pyramid image…

Len Freeman: Oh good, a nice clear soundtrack on this one

Louise: I promise to resist correcting all the archaeological inconsistencies…

Rush: Yes…

Godwinshelley2: And Louise – if you see any Peplums – let Rush know – there weren’t any in last week’s feature

Rush: I apologize, JerseyGirl, as this movie is one of the few Chan movies not available online.

Godwinshelley2: Mexican singing

Louise: Peplum alerts indeed!

Matt1: What a difference the remastered dvd makes

Rush: “Ceilito Lindo”

jerseygirl: Gosh, this is too frustrating not being able to see the film. I’ll say goodbye for now and check in with you guys at a later date.

Godwinshelley2: Please stop in next week

Rush: Please come by next weekm JG.

Len Freeman: Same time every week

Godwinshelley2: And check on-line for the dvd sets

Rush: I think that that one may be available.

Matt1: Please stop back!

hounder: please come back jg

Len Freeman: come and enjoy

Godwinshelley2: we are friendly

Matt1:

Rush: “The Sky Dragon”

Rush: And, for the end of the year…”The Return of Charlie Chan”

Godwinshelley2: And you learn the weirdest things – like how Yak fur was used in Hollywood or other stuff

Rush: “Tommy” sings…

Godwinshelley2: Nice to see Keye Luke again

Louise: Yes GS, the best part is the trivia

Matt1: Waiting Lee to ask Pop if he ever worked at Circus

jerseygirl: I hope to. I’m a big fan of Warner Oland and Sidney Toler. My favorites vary, although I really like CC @Treasure Island.

Rush: JG, we go through ALL chan films in the course of the year….

Rush: in order.

Godwinshelley2: Rush usually schedules the films in order they were released – so we will soon be in Warner Oland films

Rush: We start over at the beginning of each year.

Godwinshelley2: With some side-trips for appropriate birthday celebrations for some actors or special events or holidays

Rush: Yes. Please check our “Calendar” here at this site.

Matt1: Our Halloween party too!

Godwinshelley2: Halloween is especially fun

Rush: I will have the 2020 calendar up before this year ends.

Godwinshelley2: They just stopped for some poor guy along the road

Rush: You sound like a real fan, JG, and that’s great!

Louise: My husband the archaeologist is currently in Mexico as we speak: how’s that for irony!

Rush: I can say that you will probably enjoy our Monday evenings.

Godwinshelley2: Were Aztec pyramids all the rage around this time, Louise?

Rush: VERY appropriate, Louise!

Matt1: Very cool, Louise

Rush: GS, I might say that the pyramids are STILL something of a “rage,” GS!

Louise: I’m not sure, GS. They show up in movies every once in a while but not so much this time period.

Rush: 1948…

Len Freeman: The Whispering Skull, that this is based on, if a very good film… at least for a late cowboys film

Rush: The war had recently ended, people could travel again…

Godwinshelley2: When we watch CC in Egypt – I got the feeling there was an Egypt rage going on – like The Mummy was made then too

Louise: True, Rush

jerseygirl: I’ve seen video reconstructions of two of the “lost” CC films, “CC’s Chance” on DVD and “CCC’s Courage” on Youtube; great fun. I wish that they’d do the same with the other two movies, “Carries On” and “Greatest Case.”

Rush: Yes, GS, that is certainly true!

Rush: The “Kig Tut” craze was still being felt.

hounder: sounds neat jg

Rush: In fact, my late mother recalled hearing of Egyptian discoveries spoken of on the radio when she was a kid in the 1930s.

hounder: I’m still hoping someone will find a copy of the lost films

Rush: Professor Stanley…not doing too well.

Len Freeman: Rush, don’t we have the script for those onsite?

jerseygirl has left this room

Rush: Hounder, me too!

Godwinshelley2: Behind That Curtain has the travelogue portion about “exotic Egypt”

Rush: Chan miracles can happen!

Louise: I don’t want to see those lost films if they include any Chan singing!

Rush: “Charlie Chan in Egypt” and “Charlie Chan in Paris” were once thought lost.

Godwinshelley2: Wow – nice tie on chan

Rush: Prints were found, though not the best.

Rush: Yes. CC is always dressed well!

Godwinshelley2: The ties are not the outlandish “40s” ties usually seen on gangsters in films then

Louise: crazy archaeologist

Rush: 🙂

Rush: San Pablo.

Rush: Uh-oh…nefarious visitors….

Rush: Who turned out the lights?

Rush: The killers were outside.

Matt1:

hounder: prof won”t be telling anyone anything

Godwinshelley2: If they threw the knife from the window, wouldn’t have hit his front and not his back?

Rush: Not only that, wasn’t the Professor facing the window?

Rush: A knife in the back?

Rush: yes, GS!

Rush: HM!

Rush: Chan agrees with us.

Rush: “Very difficult to judge depth of well by size of bucket.”

Rush: Good BB line!

Rush: I thought we were on vacation. Why don’t we vacate?”

Rush: “As detective, Number One Son very excellent airplane pilot.”

Rush: (CRASH!)

hounder: i’d be wary of windows it I just saw a man murdered thru one

Godwinshelley2: Here let me stop him with a priceless antique

Rush: yes, Hounder!

Rush: GS: 🙂

Rush: Chan mentioned earlier about Lee as a piolt. This comes into play in our next movie.

Rush: (pilot)

Rush: He translated for us!

Rush: It is interesting how Chan and Birmingham are the only ones not properly attired for this expedition!

Rush: Listen closely as Tommy sings the words to this song.

Louise: DOLPHINS!

Rush: “…marijuana que fumar…”

Rush: Yes, Louise!

Rush: That famous “dolphin laugh!”

Rush: Tommy’s friends enjoyed the performance.

Louise: Big tent

Rush: Yes.

Rush: Next year, our “extras” will consist of four different movie serials with keye Luke.

Matt1: Very nice

Len Freeman: Excellent Rush

Rush: The first “Green Hornet” serial…

Rush: “Lost City of the Jungle.”

hounder: cool rush. thanks for being so diligent about searching for new extras

Rush: “The Adventures of Smilin’ Jack”…

Rush: And…”Secret Agent X-9″.

Len Freeman: An excellent foursome

Louise: ots of running around in this movie

Rush: Yes.

hounder: awful light out for night time

Len Freeman: not to mention 52 weeks of content!

Rush: I am pretty sure that theae scenes were shot at the extreme west end of the San Fernando Valley.

Rush: And, the wind is typical of the Santanna winds that blow through in the later fall and early winter.

Rush: (door creak…)

Godwinshelley2: Louise – is it the Eno’s Dali Tarot Deck you got?

Rush: I lived fairly near this area for about six years as a kid.

Louise: GS: it is the one Dali designed for a James Bond movie. Just reissued

Rush: Near the community of Chatsworth.

Godwinshelley2: An interesting deck is the International Icon Deck https://herselftarot.wordpress.com/tag/international-icon-tarot/

Rush: Kanak’s Tomb.

danventure has joined this room

Rush: DV!

Rush: Good evening!

Godwinshelley2: Ha! I used to have the original James Bond deck – that was my first deck – it got me started

danventure: Indeed, he’s here.

Len Freeman: Bob Livingston (Stanley) originally made Whispering Skull as one of the longest running cowboy trios, the Three Mesquiteers

Rush: Yes!

Louise: Nice designs, GS

Rush: Do you have a copy of tonight’s movie, “The Feathered Serpent”?

Godwinshelley2: Yes – even without faces it’s nice – in fact it is what I use if reading for kids – it’s not as scary

hounder: hidan

Louise: GS: I just designed some oracle cards for an art show.

Louise: Off walking in the woods again

Len Freeman: Bob’s brother Jack Randall was also a cowboy star

Rush: Got him!

Godwinshelley2: And it contains the most dreaded of all Tarot cards (as told on the TV program, The Simpsons) – THE HAPPY SQUIRREL

Len Freeman: though they never made any films together

Godwinshelley2: Would love to see your Oracle cards

Rush: Nice information, Len!

Godwinshelley2: You should consider Chan Oracle or Tarot Cards – would each actor have his own suit?

Rush: Thank you!

Louise: Wow: Chan cards would be cool!

hounder: they would louise

Len Freeman: the output of an over trivialized brain…

Rush: Creative hands are present!

Rush: There you go!

Godwinshelley2: Well with the 21 major cards – that 14 kids, Chan, wife, Mantan and a few police

Rush: Matt…a body…

Rush: Len: 🙂

Louise: Definitely need some furry ladies in there, GS

Godwinshelley2: Then each suit could be a method of killing

Rush: Chan has great eyesight at night to see eye color!

Godwinshelley2: OR have a suit of weapons, suit of transportation, suit of clues and what would the final suit be?

Godwinshelley2: LOCATIONS

Louise: My head is spinning, GS

Rush: “It is 12 o’clock.” (Midnight)

Godwinshelley2: Well reworking the Loveletter game would be much easier than Tarot

Rush: I am not familiar with the “Love Letter game.”

Godwinshelley2: That is the Santa card game I sent you – reworked for Christmas

hounder: again with the destroying fingerprints. Iffn i was Chan that would make me suspicious of the person destroying the prints

Rush: Another one, Matt…

Matt1:

Rush: AH! Okay!

Matt1: and don’t call me Shirley

Rush: I was so taken by Santa I missed the love letter angle!

Rush: Yes! My vote goes for that one!

Godwinshelley2: The game is simple enough that it can be made into many different themes

Rush: Yes, the box reads: “Letters to Santa.” That’s what threw me!

Rush: So, we could have “The Game of Chan Wishes”!

Godwinshelley2: Though I think there should be some dice. If you get a Son Assistant card, you would have to roll doubles to get the clue to Chan

Rush: Sounding good , GS!

Godwinshelley2: If it is an odd number, Son goes to jail. If even, Son stays free

Rush: Another good BB quote!

hounder: hi saprano screams. lol

Rush: We should collect those next year! “The Collected Wisdom of Birmingham Brown.”

Godwinshelley2: That would make a nice addition

Rush: As we watch the films, we can note the exact times that we catch a “BB-ism.”

Rush: Then we can go back and transcribe them, along with their context as needed.

Godwinshelley2: Won’t have to worry about those until later next year

Rush: Right.

Rush: Next year when we reach the Monograms, we start!

Rush: Some great BB stuff tonight!

hounder: lol. i’m not afraid. i feel like a liar

Rush: Yes!

Rush: Here’s where we can hear the flamingos.

Rush: And i just heard a dove!

Rush: The “honking” would be the flamingo.

Rush: Another dove here.

Louise: Not real symbols

Godwinshelley2: chalk

Len Freeman: the air down

Len Freeman: sit down

Rush: Got BB!

Rush: Yes, Louuise!

Godwinshelley2: For Chan Tarot – make Earl Derr Biggers the Fool – as he steps out onto Punchbowl hill

Louise: All good ideas, GS

Rush: GS, HonoluLou would take issue with that choice!

Rush: 🙂

Rush: “Madre mia.”

Godwinshelley2: Rush the Fool is the beginning of the adventure

Godwinshelley2: He steps out not knowing what is ahead

Rush: AH. I am very unfamiliar!

Rush: I prefer that the future remain ahead of me!

Godwinshelley2: You can rework the names – just keep the numbering

Rush: “Uncle Fullback.”

Rush: I would love to go to this area and see if I could locate where these scenes were shot.

Rush: ossibly homes are there now, though.

Godwinshelley2: backlot?

Rush: (Possibly)

Godwinshelley2: next to a zoo?

Rush: No…these scenes were shot at the base of the santa Suzanna Mountains at the west end of the san Fernando valley in L.A.

Rush: I would almost bet on it.

Godwinshelley2: so the birds are local

Rush: Looked like a Polynesian Tike there.

Louise: Seriously not Aztec!

Rush: “Proof” of them making contact with the Americas!

Rush: :0

Louise: Funny Rush!

Rush: “I’m ready.”

hounder: me and that man ain’t got nothing in common

Rush: BB spilled the beans.

Rush: The fight begins!

Louise: It’s a rumble!

Rush: We need a commentator, here!

Rush: We do have a ref; “Break it up.”

Rush: BIFF!

Rush: Splat!

Rush: PUNCH!

Rush: CRACK!

Louise: Ouch concussion

Rush: CRUNCH!

Rush: Yes, Louise!

Rush: I was thinking how both Keye Luke and Victor Sen Yung began their acting careers without any formal training.

Rush: “on the job training.”

Rush: THE END.

Rush: (Applause)

Rush: Well!

Matt1:

Len Freeman: Was that a heads up for another possible Chan in Mexico City?

hounder: good night and thanks for the fun.

Rush: This was certainly a unique entry into the Chan lore of films!

Rush: TYSM, Hounder!

Rush: And thank you ALL for another fun-filled night!

Matt1: Good night folks and hope you have a great week.

Louise: Damn, Rush, I almost made it through without a call from Hubby. Only 1 minute to go and he calls!!!

Rush: I am not to optimistic about “The Sky dragon” being available online.

hounder has left this room

Rush: a fast check found nothing.

Rush: Anyway…

Rush: That is our movie for next Monday night!

Len Freeman: It’s in the same set as Feathered Serpent

Rush: “The Sky Dragon.

PaulM has left this room

Rush: The final film in the Chan series proper.

Matt1 has left this room

Rush: So…

Rush: as always…

Rush: Thank you….

Rush: Have a great week…

Godwinshelley2: Night all

Rush: Be happy and safe…

Godwinshelley2 has left this room

Len Freeman: Good night…T YSM

Louise: Nite all.

Rush: take care.

Rush: Good night.

Rush: See you next week.

Rush: Len, louise, DV….

Rush: Thank you again!
