Louise: WELL HELLO ALL YOU CHAN FANS. I AM THE HOSTESS WITH THE MOSTEST TONIGHT AS RUSH IS AWAY FOR THE EVENING.

Louise: We will be watching “The Chinese Cat” at 8:15. Before then we will watch Chapter 2 of an odd little spy series, “Secret Agent X-9” co-starring Benson Fong and Keye Luke!

Godwinshelley has joined this room

Louise: Hi GS

Godwinshelley: Hello Louise

Louise: I have never done the countdown. Do you want to do that?

Godwinshelley: My husband rebooted our internet just as I needed to get on

Louise: They do things like that!

Godwinshelley: No you can – I set the 2 minute timer on my phone and that keeps my hand free

Louise: Oh, good idea. I will do the phone thing now.

pdclassicdvds has joined this room

Godwinshelley: I know a couple weeks back no one showed up for the special features

Louise: What time do you usually start the short film? I have never been able to come for that.

Godwinshelley: I’m on my iPhone for chat since my husband is still rebooting the internet

Louise: Hello PD! Welcome.

Godwinshelley: Usually 7:45

pdclassicdvds: Hi Louise. Thanks for the welcome.

Louise: Okay, I’ll do the coundown for that too

Louise: I have not met you before, pd?

Godwinshelley: Good practice for the 8:15 countdown

pdclassicdvds: Nice to meet a fellow Chan enthusiast

Godwinshelley: Yes it’s fun

Louise: Well as I said in BIG PRINT above, I am substituting for Rush tonight.

Godwinshelley: I was an acupuncture student and found the group

Godwinshelley:

pdclassicdvds: I guess your patients got the point?

Louise: I found the group when I was teaching a film lecture on censorship and found the Chan video about that.

pdclassicdvds: I never saw that.

Louise: I guess it wasn’t about censorship, more about movies on Sundays or something like that! I reloaded it to the site last year after Rush lost it.

Louise: It’s on the site somewhere.

Godwinshelley2 has joined this room

Godwinshelley has left this room

Godwinshelley2: there my laptop can now connect to the internet

Louise: I’m goinfg to start the mini-feature a bit early since I want to be done by 8:00. Okay with everyone? 2 minute warning…

pdclassicdvds: Ok with me

Godwinshelley2: ok-let me find it

aemelton has joined this room

Louise: Hi aemelton

Louise: We will be starting the mini-feature in about a minute

aemelton: ok

Louise: Everybody ready?

Godwinshelley2: I’m set – I think

aemelton: yes

Louise: 20 seconds

Louise: 10seconds

Louise: 5 seconds

Louise: go

Godwinshelley2: I’m running

Godwinshelley2: Benson Fong AND Keye Luke

Godwinshelley2: So this was a newpaper comic strip I guess

Louise: Okay, that ws harder than I thought to type!

Godwinshelley2: Not enough hands or eyes – I know – it’s harder than you would think

Louise: I found one page from the newspaper comic. I’ll see if I can send it to Rush

Godwinshelley2: It’s best to get everything cued and just have to hit go

Louise: So Lloyd Bridges as a fake Nazi

aemelton: haha

Louise: I love the fake punches

pdclassicdvds: Thank goodness Lloyd made it out alive!!!

Cdirus has joined this room

Louise: Sea Hunt!

Cdirus: Hi guys!

Louise: Hi CD

Louise: We are watching Lloyd Bridges being a Nazi

Louise: X-9

pdclassicdvds: Is that all you need is a fake ID

Louise: Yes, better put that chute on if you are jumping out

aemelton: the music tells us we are back in Japan

pdclassicdvds: Oh no please not Benson Fong as a bad guy!!!!

Louise: So do the fake buck teeth they put on all Japanese

Louise: So many different accents

Louise: Pith helmets

Louise: He suddenly has a German accent

Louise: Fun to see our actors in a diffrent movie

aemelton: that was easy

aemelton: oh she has a gun

Louise: Who are these people???

pdclassicdvds: I agree. I am a little lost.

Godwinshelley2: internet fun here still

Godwinshelley2: Is that dress too big for the lady>

Louise: American? Fie on Americans! (German-esque accents)

Louise: That is high-tech!

pdclassicdvds: Why didn’t he hit the woman?

pdclassicdvds: LOL

pdclassicdvds: Run Lloyd Run!!!!!

Louise: Wish we had our sound effects!

Godwinshelley2: So who is the good guys in this?

aemelton: Australian?

Louise: I assume X-9 is

pdclassicdvds: Good thing they were there to help him

aemelton: I wonder if the Bridges family has ever watched this together

Godwinshelley2: What did the sign say?

pdclassicdvds: I am sure they would get a great kick out of it

Godwinshelley2: Is that sign “Internment Camp”?

Godwinshelley2: This copy is very dark

Louise: Yes, they said they ran an internment camp for the Germans

Louise: Is it me or is this film really dark?

Louise: That was fun!

Godwinshelley2: yes really dark

aemelton: haha yes

pdclassicdvds: Many of the serials are not very clear. That is why some groups try and remaster them.

Godwinshelley2: I need to cue my dvd AND check on the vanilla lime frozen yogurt ice cream I am making

Louise: Oooo, GS, I want some!

aemelton: sounds amazing

Louise: So I read in Rush’s description that the Chinese Cat is a play on the Maltese Falcon

libraryjim has joined this room

libraryjim: Hi all

Louise: Hey Jim

Cdirus: Hi Jim!

Louise: We are Rush-less tonight

libraryjim: Charlie Chan not kitten around with the Chinese Cat tonight, eh?

Louise: You’re the cat’s meow, you are!

libraryjim:

libraryjim: How come no Rush tonight?

Godwinshelley2: I’m cued and the ice cream is almost ready to dish out into the frozen container

pdclassicdvds: Didn’t Monogram use the same script as this one for a Mr. Wong movie as well?

Louise: I can’t remember why! GS? Do you know?

Godwinshelley2: It was a Mr Wong script first

Godwinshelley2: I think Rush has some summer school things that keep him late this month

pdclassicdvds: Monogram certainly knew how to save a buck.

Louise: I think Rush had an appointment

Godwinshelley2: AND I need to tend to my machine again

Louise: You know this substituting for Rush is making me nervous!

pdclassicdvds: Louise you are doing just fine. Thanks for pinch hitting.

Louise: I left my dinner on the stove so I wouldn’t be distracted!

pdclassicdvds: Who is Luke Chan?

pdclassicdvds: LOL

Phil: At the very bottom.

Phil:

Louise: Damn that was fast

pdclassicdvds: Yes

Louise: Oh Phil, you are awesome

Phil: Man already called to service.

pdclassicdvds: The old sliding door routine. Third time I fell for it this month.

Louise: Birmingham Brown

Dona: He makes me laugh.

Louise: Murder is my business!

libraryjim: Luke Chan actor, born 1896, died 1983. He didn’t make many films

libraryjim: uncredited, as a reporter

libraryjim: IMDB

Louise: Pay phones were so important in old movies

Louise: Tommy foes to UCLA?

Louise: goes

Louise: Charlie is rather casual here

aemelton: hands in pockets

pdclassicdvds: He must have a few dollars

libraryjim: Another one with a time-crunch.

pdclassicdvds: Nothing is too difficult for Charlie

Dona: Maybe that’s how they keep the movies short

libraryjim: Huh, Benson Fong played a character named Lee Chan in T.J. Hooker1

libraryjim: !

Rush has joined this room

pdclassicdvds: Where is other man??? That is hysterical

Rush: Hello!

Louise: Hi Rush!!!

Rush: Just got in from work!

Cdirus: Hi Rush!

pdclassicdvds: Hi Rush

libraryjim: Charlie is a bit short with Tommy

Phil: Aloha Rush

Louise: We’ve been holding down the fort for you.

Rush: Aloha, Phil!

libraryjim: $2.00 for a hardcover book! Today it would set him back $30

Rush: TYSM!

Rush: Please continue!

Rush: Where are we timewise in the movie?

Louise: 12:15

pdclassicdvds: Nice police officer. How could you ticket Birmingham????

Cdirus: about 12:35

Phil: 1230

Louise: We are all messed up on the time!

Phil: 1245

pdclassicdvds: I guess those guys are twins?

Rush: I am at 13:20.

Rush: s that close?

Phil: Yeah, they’re they twins from the Matrix.

Dona: Yes they are

pdclassicdvds: LOL

Louise: We missed you

Rush: I am trying to shake the “freeway buzz.”

Rush: Aw…

Louise: and I am not good at countdowns!

Rush: It has taken me 15-plus years to get that down, Louise!

Rush: Poor Mr. Karzos…

aemelton: nice music

Rush: A very WILLING victim!

Phil:

Rush: TYSM, Phil.

pdclassicdvds: Two of them were too many anyway

Louise: But Phil has been perfect on the tin cans

Phil: This is nerve wracking.

Louise: I know Phil!

Rush: Matt had to miss this evening because of an ailing family member.

Rush: Might be back next week.

Godwinshelley2: OK Ice cream for everyone – Its out of the machine

Dona: you were perfect on the countdown Louise

Phil: Gees I hope so.

pdclassicdvds: Thats too bad

Godwinshelley2: Yes Louise I watched it on my iPhone and started my remote

Louise: spooky lighting

Rush: And, sadly, Len is not with us because his eldest son suddenly pasased away.

Godwinshelley2: Oh that is soo sad

Dona: sounds good to me GS

Godwinshelley2: I’m sorry to hear about that

Rush: Please keep him and his family in your thoughts/prayers.

Phil: Sorry to hear about Len too. Shocking.

pdclassicdvds: I will keep him in my prayers

Rush: This is where the “family” in Charlie Chan Family comes into play.

Louise: Okay, and I just got a phone call from my husband who is on his way to the hospital with appendicitis! In Mexico! What is happening???

Dona: I’m so sorry to hear that, I will also keep them in my prayers

Cdirus: Sorry to hear about Len.

Godwinshelley2: What – I’m here to run it for the rest of today louise if you need to vamoose

Rush: We have shared happiness as well as sadness over the years.

Rush: Thankfully, happiness has outweighed the sadness.

Louise: Thanks, GS, but I really don’t have anywhere to go because he is in Mexico

Louise: Yes Rush

Godwinshelley2: Husband’s appendix or someone elses?

Rush: But, the tougher things in life are a reality, of course.

libraryjim: A surprise in every loaf

Rush: And, all of you are so wonderful, and provide much comfort in times of need!

Louise: My husband’s appendix.

Rush: Yes, LJ.

Godwinshelley2: yikes

Rush: Yes, Louise…

Dona: Yes Yikes

aemelton: whoa

Louise: Yeah, yikes. a true nightmare

Godwinshelley2: can you check his phone’s location?

Louise: He is being driven to the hospital

Rush: The Karzos twins are perhaps the weirdest characters in the Chan series!

Godwinshelley2: yes Rush

Louise: Hey GS, what is that stuff on the wall?

Rush: So, he’s in the hospital as we speak, Louise?

Godwinshelley2: zodiac

Louise: On the way, Rush

Rush: Ambulance?

Rush: Are are you near the hospital, or is he out of town?

Louise: No, driven by one of his students

Godwinshelley2: odd fortune telling images

Louise: Yes, GS

Rush: I didn’t realize this was happening right now, Louise!

Louise: Yes Rush, just a few minutes after you arrived!

Rush: I missed some information above, Louise, but is your husband fairly nearby to you now, or out of town?

Godwinshelley2: If he has any allergies to meds, now is a good time to text the info to his phone

Godwinshelley2: Rush – in Mexico

Louise: He is in Mexico, Rush

Rush: OH!

Rush: Mexico City area?

libraryjim: Yikes!

pdclassicdvds: I better not wear gloves

Louise: No, in a rural area but near a good city

Cdirus: Which city Louise?

Rush: That’s a plus, Louise.

Louise: Vallodalid

Rush: Well, we add him to our thoughts/prayers.

Godwinshelley2: Did he get travel insurance?

Rush: If you have to leave us, louise, of course we will know why!

Godwinshelley2: I can run it if need be

Rush: Knocking on the ceiling.

Rush: Walter Deacon.

Louise: Thanks all. I will hang out until I have to go…

libraryjim: Knock three times in the ceiling if you want Chan

Godwinshelley2: Twice on the pipe – if the answer is nooo

Dona: that should be a song LJ

Dona: lol

libraryjim: LOL

Godwinshelley2: It was a song

Rush: LJ: 🙂

Louise:

Rush: GS: 🙂

Louise: Charlie reall rough on Tommy in this one

Rush: DUSTY desk.

Godwinshelley2: I think Chan is annoyed that he is paying good money to a school that the boy chooses not to attend

aemelton: ha

Rush: Yes!

pdclassicdvds: Gee a kid who doesn’t want to go to school. That is a novelty

Cdirus: Did he just write on the desk?

Rush: It seems that Tommy is going to or is attending a San francisco Bay area college.

Louise: Charlies moustache is a bit long here

Rush: CD, CC made a tracing of a unique shape on the desk.

Godwinshelley2: Charlie has a bowling ball case?

Louise: Well he said earlier it was the University of california

pdclassicdvds: Look out Charlie

Rush: He sees that something was removed from that spot recently.

Dona: it looks like charlie had a bowling ball

Rush: Tick, tick….

Godwinshelley2: Watch

Rush: BOOM!!!!

Rush: It is fun to play the explosion sequence frame-by-frame.

Godwinshelley2: Cabbie needs a cabbie

Rush: An “extra” whose identity has been lost to time!

Godwinshelley2: That is a bowling case, right?

pdclassicdvds: It is

Dona: looks like it to me gs

Godwinshelley2: So Charlie bowls!

Rush: CLUE here.

Rush: That tracing.

Rush: (Boing…)

Rush: Shopkeeper must have bad eyesight so he writes very large characters!

Godwinshelley2: Two locations? Shore location and Pier location

Rush: Note the mirror.

Rush: Turned vertically.

aemelton: hmm

Dona: i hadn’t noticed that before Russ

Dona: Rush

Rush: My guess is that it somehow was a distraction in that shot of Tommy and BB in the car.

Godwinshelley2: Is this the foggiest Chan film of the series?

Rush: PERHAPS!

pdclassicdvds: Short and snappy

Rush: “Dead Men Tell” has some…

pdclassicdvds: Its the dead guy

Rush: But, I think this one takes the cake.

Phil: That dude IS freaky. No two ways about it.

Rush: The other Karzos brother.

Dona: agreed phil

Rush: Not at all concerned that his brother was murdered.

aemelton: ha

Godwinshelley2: I saw a headline on Facebook that said “of the 200 people you meet on the street today, 2 of them are ghosts” – I didn’t read the story, but it would apply to this film I believe

Rush: “Once you have large family, all other troubles mean nothing.”

Rush: Spoken by a true expert!

Godwinshelley2: Yes Chan sure is –

Rush: Seems to happen in this film, as you say, GS!

Louise: Okay, no news from Mexico but I think I will go. See you all next week.

Rush: Okay!

Rush: Please keep us posted!

Louise: I will

Godwinshelley2: OK Louse – good luck – keep us up to date

Rush: Our best to you and your husband!

Louise: And Rush, let’s talk more about downloading the website

Rush: A city streets chase….

Rush: And…more fog…

Rush: Yes, Louise!

Dona: Is it raining?

Rush: Of course!

Dona: i don’t see rain

pdclassicdvds: I knew that guy was up to no good!

Phil: Wonder what those intersections look like now?

Rush: maybe just the moisture from the fog.

aemelton: yeah

Godwinshelley2: What city do you believe that to be they drove thru, Rush?

Rush: when one is in fog, actually one is inside a cloud…lots of moisture!

Louise has left this room

libraryjim: The shadows know

Rush: That is supposed to be San francisco, but probably shot in Los Angeles.

pdclassicdvds: what kind of music is that?

Godwinshelley2: I took a couple screen shots of those travelling scene with me while in SF and nothing seemed to match

Godwinshelley2: PD – I’d say romping through a field music

Rush: The mystery breeze…

aemelton: repetetive

Godwinshelley2: Now on to the comedy music

pdclassicdvds: that is what it sounds like

Rush: “Confusion” music here…

Godwinshelley2: Lucky the gas isn’t flammable or the matches would have set it off

Rush: YES!

Rush: BB gets woozy….

Rush: “DANGER”

Rush: Oxyzone.

Rush: Dr. Reknik…

Godwinshelley2: Oxisone – spelling on subtitles

pdclassicdvds: great line

Godwinshelley2: Everythng back to normal

Rush: Yes.

Rush: There is big money at stake in that wager made earlier!

pdclassicdvds: Charlie never loses

Rush: “Dog cannot chase three rabbits at same time.”

aemelton: NEVER

Rush: Fortunately, PD!

Rush: So, Tommy accidentally helps his Pop.

Rush: Daisy Bufford as Carolina.

danventure has joined this room

libraryjim: tis time BB chases the skirt.

Rush: hello, DV!

Rush: WELCOME!

danventure: Late, yes, but at least I am not late.

danventure: I am here.

Rush: The gang in their funhouse headquarters.

Godwinshelley2: 49:10

Godwinshelley2: In case you want to join in – thou Monograms tend to run short

Rush: Yes, I believe that this IS the most foggy film in the series!

aemelton: xylophone

Godwinshelley2: Seems to be to me

Rush: Yes, AE.

Godwinshelley2: Rush – I corrected the email address you had buried in your email group message when I put it on facebook.

Rush: “Skeleton” music.

Rush: Karzos!

pdclassicdvds: Charlie too smart for them

Rush: Yes, he is.

Rush: wait till we eventually find out where CC put that diamond!

Rush: This is one of the toughest scenes in a Chan movie.

danventure: I don’t recall many times CC actually gets punched…

pdclassicdvds: You usually don’t see Charlie manhandled like that

Rush: Tommy really takes one for his Pop, soon.

Godwinshelley2: This part is rough

pdclassicdvds: loosen his tie

Rush: “Tasted like RAT.”

Rush: Good line.

pdclassicdvds: BB will save the day!!!!

Rush: BB and the trick mirror.

pdclassicdvds: This cop is as useless as a screen door on a submarine

Rush: The alarm monitor.

Rush: PD: 🙂

aemelton: private graveyard

pdclassicdvds: Why wouldn’t they leave one guy with the Chans

Rush: Possible answer: They are not too smart!

pdclassicdvds: Thats it!

Rush: 🙂

Rush: BB giggles through this tense situation!

pdclassicdvds: Where are the Bowery Boys?

Rush: He seems to be “acclimating” to the Chan “norm.”

danventure: LOL. Yeah, the Bowery Boys…

libraryjim: What was the line in “Olympics”? Better to lose life than to lose face”?

Rush: In the next studio, PD!

pdclassicdvds: Call Sach

pdclassicdvds: and Mugsy

Rush: Yes!

pdclassicdvds: They left Tommy

pdclassicdvds: Its about time

Rush: Tommy was too injured to move yet.

Rush: he agreed to stay behind and hide.

Rush: (Bonk!)

Rush: (Thunk!)

Rush: (Cuckoo…)

Rush: “His light out, too.”

libraryjim: his light outtoo

Rush: Tommy emerges…

libraryjim: Tommy Turtle?

Rush: Tommy to the rescue!

libraryjim: Chan gives a compliment, finally1

Rush: “Two-gun” Birmingham.

libraryjim: !

Rush: Yes, LJ!

Rush: We do see that Chan is a loving, grateful dad!

Rush: GREAT hiding place for the diamond!

pdclassicdvds: Now my fingerprints are on the gloves.

libraryjim: Yeah, don’t he feel foolish, having the diamond all along

Rush: Type of fur?

libraryjim: mink

Rush: Dark.

Phil: Rabbit?

Godwinshelley2: looks like part of a gorilla suit to me

Phil: Dead rabbit?

Rush: “This is how you did it.”

pdclassicdvds: Like Robot Monster

Dona: all police take a blond in a mink to an arrest

pdclassicdvds: lol

Rush: YES, PD!

Phil: Boy, that is one sharp cop.

aemelton: haha

Rush: How will he do on his next case…without Chan?

libraryjim: Bishop = church officer; deacon = church officer. therefore bishop= deacon

Phil: By then, he’ll be in management.

Rush: Yes!

Godwinshelley2: Poor BB

Rush: “Thank YOU!”

pdclassicdvds: You is crazy
