Rush has joined this room
Rush: Good evening, Mike and Rachel!
Mike n Rachel in DC: Hi Rush!
Rush: How are both of you tonight?
Mike n Rachel in DC: Never have been the first ones here! We are great…hope you and yours are too.
Rush: Doing well, thank you.
Matt1 has joined this room
Rush: Well…another Monday! Next week is our Halloween Party!
Matt1: Hello Rush and M & R!
Mike n Rachel in DC: An intriguing looking radio tonight
Rush: Hello, Matt!
Mike n Rachel in DC: Hi Matt!
Mike n Rachel in DC: Rush: We’ll have to start working on our e-costumes
Matt1: Need to figure out my costume for next week!
Rush: Me as well!
Rush: It usually comes to me just before the big day!
Matt1: Do I sense a “couples” theme costume M & R?
Mike n Rachel in DC: Ideally…it’s hard to find one that isn’t a give-away, though.
Rush: And, there are some noteworthy couples in the film series!
Matt1: Oscar and….
Mike n Rachel in DC: lol
Rush: Well, people might wonder if it’s you two or, maybe Mr. and Mrs. Phil!
Matt1: or A & F
Mike n Rachel in DC: That’s true we have several now…hmmm…
Rush: So…have FUN!
Matt1: Now I need to work on mine…..I try to never repeat, but I’ve been here so many years!
Mike n Rachel in DC: Always, Rush. Life is too short…
Rush: A “couple” could be Birmingham Brown and Ben carter!
Matt1: Good one!
Rush: That’s so, Mike!
Mike n Rachel in DC: do you remember the guy who…
Rush: You could have some incomplete talk going!
Mike n Rachel in DC: …no he never did that
Hawaii_Steve has joined this room
Rush: He’s gone to paris.
Matt1: Alohaaaaaaaaaa, Steve!
Rush: Hawaii Steve!
Rush: Aloha to you!
Hawaii_Steve: Aloha gang from the Land of Charlie Chan. Be that as it is.
mda19083 has joined this room
mda19083: greetings all
Rush: Welcome to YOU!
Hawaii_Steve: And how are all the Chanettes today? Hmmm?
Matt1: Hello MDA!
Mike n Rachel in DC: Hello Steve…Chanettes in DC are well, thanks!
Hawaii_Steve: Matt, thank you for the full-out aloha greeting. It always makes me smile.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Hi mda
Matt1: Always for you Steve!
mda19083: happy to be in the chat room with my friends
Hawaii_Steve: Hi Mike and Rachel. Howz it?
Mike n Rachel in DC: Great. Having some homemade enchiladas with Chan this evening!
Rush: Our “extra” tonight is one episode from a longer story. It is, evidently the only part available from “The Deacon Jessop Murder Case.”
mda19083: must be mexican night here in the chat room – I am having chili
Matt1: Ready here
Rush: What I found interesting is that it contains an aphorism that Charlie Chan states in “Docks of New Orleans”!
Matt1: What year?
Rush: MDA…that’s exactly what I had for dinner!
Mike n Rachel in DC: Do we know when this radio show was done?
Rush: I believe it stars Walter Connoly, and matbe it dates from around the time of “Docks”?
Rush: Circa 1948?
Hawaii_Steve: I’m ready for the radio episode. all cued up.
Rush: I will get mine ready too…
Rush: it is rather short…and, we cannot tell the time of where we are in it…NO clock!
Rush: once you start it….that’s it!
Mike n Rachel in DC: There are a couple of seconds of silence at the beginning…um…Rush a little player app opened for me. It has a timer. Sez it’s 13:20 long.
Rush: Is everyone ready?
Hawaii_Steve: Yesterday I was in my store unit and found an old book about Old-Time Radio Programs. It gives details about the various Chan radio series. If I am not mistaken, I believe there are seven series.
Deacon Foxx + Angel has joined this room
Mike n Rachel in DC: Reading in DC
Matt1: Hello A & F!
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Good EVE-EN-ING!
Rush: Mine shows no timer, and when I listened to it, I could not pause, etc.
Hawaii_Steve: Aloha Deacon Foxx & Angel. How are you?
Rush: AH! DEACONS are wild tonight!
Mike n Rachel in DC: Those Deacons often get a little wild
Hawaii_Steve: So they say.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Hey ho! Re Deacon Jessop—is there an episode number or title on tonight’s entry?
Deacon Foxx + Angel: We are nothing if not ecclesiastical, on a night like this.
Rush: Again, it’s part of a longer adventure, so we will not get the conclusion to say the least!
Hawaii_Steve: Rush, can you still add information to the website. If so, is there room the Chan radio series?
Rush: But…still fun to listen to!
Deacon Foxx + Angel: So how do we find tonight’s radio piece?
Mike n Rachel in DC: It’s all about the process, Rush. 🙂
Deacon Foxx + Angel: We are ALL in process.
Rush: I could try, Steve, BUT, it seems if I go beyond re-doing existing text, it does not publish!
Rush: At out new site, that would be a GREAT thing to have, though!
Rush: Let’s count down….
Rush: Starting at…30 seconds…
Rush: 20 seconds…
Hawaii_Steve: Rush, too bad.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Rush: maybe you could “leak” all our archived stuff to numerous, & COMEPETING, bureaucratic entities. One of them would do OUR job FOR us!!
Rush: Sounds like FUN, Angel!
Mike n Rachel in DC: Lots of gong competition for Matt in this music
Rush: This one happens in Honolulu.
Rush: Lee is in this one, too.
Hawaii_Steve: I am so afraid that one day this Chan website will crash completely.
Rush: Me too, steve!
Hawaii_Steve: yes, Rush. Location:Honolulu.
Rush: That’s why I am working to figure out WordPress to rebuild there.
Hawaii_Steve: Is it Commissionor Williams?
Rush: it will be a LENGTHY process, of course, BUT, the “basics” can be in place to start, and, for the forseeable future there can be two connected sites.
Rush: TWEET, I mean!
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Tell Tale Hands? Romantic Engineer? What?
Matt1: Pretty good Chan thus far
Rush: Agreed, matt.
Rush: That’s why I went with it.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: CC’s Daughter Kidnapped? Which?
Hawaii_Steve: Rush, you have 20 years of work on this website. Some of it is the amazing research that anybody has. Great stuff.
Hawaii_Steve: Small island of middle of Pacific. Don’t I know it.
mda19083: does anyone have a year for this radio broadcast
hounder has joined this room
Matt1: Hello Hounder!
hounder: hi everyone.
mda19083: greetings hounder
Rush: How are you tonight?
Hawaii_Steve: mda, we need to wait for end credits.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: WHERE can we find this piece?
Mike n Rachel in DC: Hi hounder…have you arrived?
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Hey, H!
Rush: “He who squanders today talking about yesterday’s triumphs, have nothing to boast of tomorrow.”
Rush: That was the quote I mentioned.
sarabell2 has joined this room
Hawaii_Steve: Aloha Hounder.
Matt1: Hello SB!
Rush: We will hear it in “Docks of New Orleans.”
mda19083: hello sb
sarabell2: Hello Matt, and everybody.
Rush: WELCOME BACK!
Rush: How have you been?
hounder: hi sb
Hawaii_Steve: mda, just google Jerry’s vintage radio logs. Go to “C”
hounder: made it safe back to fl
Rush: Very good, Hounder!
Matt1: Welcome back!
Mike n Rachel in DC: Glad to hear of the safe arrival
Rush: How was your mother on the trip?
hounder: still unpacking and trying to get settled
sarabell2: Sorry, I had hip replacement surgery 10 days ago. Came back tonight so I could get some cheer from you guys.
Matt1: Wishing you a speedy recovery, SB!
Hawaii_Steve: 1937 is the year of this broadcast.
Rush: I trust you will be feeling much better than before the surgery, SB!
Hawaii_Steve: Time to cut bate.
Hawaii_Steve: cute bait.
sarabell2: Thank you, I am up and about.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Get well soon SB!
hounder: shedid great the day we left nc. had a hard time on the 2 night stop over, but did ok on the 2nd part of the trip.
Rush: My wife had that surgery some years ago! It was the best thing!
mda19083: thanks for the tip steve
hounder: hope you heal quickly sb
Rush: That’s pretty good, Hounder!
Hawaii_Steve: This is a good episode. The actors are into their characters.
mda19083: sb – you will be back on the dance floor before you know it
sarabell2: I am glad it worked out for your wife, tell her I know how she felt.
Rush: seems that she did better when on the road versus being in one place.
Hawaii_Steve: “pau” hawaiian for finished.
sarabell2: Good Mda, I never could dance before.
Rush: Yes, steve!
Rush: Chan calls Lee “Lee Chan.”
Hawaii_Steve: Lee Chan sounds like actor Keye Luke. But it is not.
hounder: seems so rush. but she kept telling people she liked fl.
Rush: Agreed, Steve!
Deacon Foxx + Angel: WHAT is the title of this piece?
Elron has joined this room
Matt1: Hello Elron!
Elron: Evening All.
Rush: I believe that they modeled themselve after Oland and Luke to some degree.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Hi Elron
Deacon Foxx + Angel: You must get Hubbard jokes allatime, Elron. Welcome!
Rush: Nice to see you again!
Hawaii_Steve: In 1937, both actors are alive and related to the film series.
Rush: How have you been?
Rush: Closing music….
sarabell2: Hello, Elron.
Rush: (Radio drama)
Elron: been very busy with work. Wante to see last week show but didn’t make it.
Elron: timestamp please.
Rush: Well…re reached the end of the radio extra.
Elron: no worries.
Rush: BUT, the feature starts in 20 minutes.
Rush: “The Chinese Ring”
mda19083: time flies when you are in the chan chat room
hounder: pleased to meet you elron. i’m oundr
Hawaii_Steve: Rush, I have an announcement to make regarding Charlie Chan films in the future. Can I share it now?
Rush: Abrupt end to the music!
Louise has joined this room
Rush: Perfect time!
hounder: hi louise
Louise: Hey Chan Clan!
Matt1: Hello Louise!
mda19083: hello louise
Rush: WELCOME, Louise!
sarabell2: Hi Louise
Mike n Rachel in DC: hi louise!
Elron: hey Louise!
Hawaii_Steve: Hi Louise.
Louise: Thanks all. I am here to cheer up sarabell! My sister is having that surgery in a few months.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Louise! Color our room!
Rush: WOW! See how much you are loved!
Louise: I feel the love…
Rush: Thank you, again, Louise for the help so far!
Louise: Freezing here in New Jersey
Rush: Things look less bleak!
Hawaii_Steve: NEWS RELEASE: Walt Disney Studios acquired 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment division. The release of future Charlie Chan movies, on DVD, is in doubt. In 2019, The Walt Disney Company acquired the Home Entertainment division of 20th Century Fox.
Rush: Fall is here…but winter seems to knock!
sarabell2: Thanks Louise. I hope your sister does well. The operation was pretty easy
Louise: You are welcome Rush. I really want to just take the whole website and instrantly transfer it but I know that is too hard to do.
Rush: I am not sure it is even possible, Louise.
Louise: HS: don’t we have all the movies on DVD now?
Elron: Steve. I thought all the movies were out. are you meaning new movies of charlie chan?
Rush: Steve…mixed reviews on that news.
Louise: As to the website, it can be done Rush.
Rush: They will probably just sit on the Chan movies.
Mike n Rachel in DC: We’re trying to figure out if that is good or bad news…
Elron: well I know we all have our copies.
Rush: You mean the total transfer, Louise?
Rush: Yes, Elron!
Elron: to me it’s bad news. What ever they touch they are breaking.
hounder: so they aren’t going to print any more of the dvds already released? or if they find lost ones hey won’t be released?
Rush: Agreed, Elron!
Louise: Yes Rush, we shouldemphasize a total transfer
Rush: Well…if you feel it can happen…that’s good enough for me!
Hawaii_Steve: In December 2017, the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney was proposed. After a Comcast bid and Disney counter bid approval was given. Disney took over most of 21st Century Fox on March 20, 2019.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Well, everyone hang on to your DVDs. There might be a big increase in value!
sarabell2: I will never sell mine.
Elron: same here Sara.
Rush: You are right, SB.
Hawaii_Steve: Elron, it means that nobody is looking for the lost Chan films.
Matt1: We will always continue to look, Steve
hounder: sniff, sniff
Elron: true. but at one point TMC might find them and they will be in the public domain.
Mike n Rachel in DC: is there a chance that the “lost” films are findable?
Rush: I still feel that one or more could be in some obscure spot in eastern Europe.
Elron: at that point they don’t have claim to it anymore.
Rush: Hidden away during the War and then left there during the Soviet era.
sarabell2: They found old Buster Keaton films in Europe.
Rush: So, could happen to Chan!
Louise: Field trip, Rush. we could all go as Ukranian spies and search about.
Matt1: Never give up hope!
Rush: Absolutely, Louise!
Hawaii_Steve: As of this date, most DVD distributors are out-of-stock of the FOX Chan DVDxs.
Elron: so that means they will never release the chan kids cartoon then?
Rush: LOTS are still on eBay.
Matt1: I never got the cartoons, hmmmm
mda19083: i am with louise – road trip!
Matt1: This weeks project
Elron: lol Matt.
Rush: The cartoon was from Hanna-Barbera, not Fox…
hounder: may need to buy another set just to have in case mine croak. thanks for the heads up hs
Rush: So, those would be safe!
Deacon Foxx + Angel: We MUST get a Chan Clan DVD set before they’re actually forbidden to buy or sell.
Elron: for now Rush.
Elron: Looking on ebay. lol
Hawaii_Steve: Nobody at Walt Disney Home Entertainment will discuss the release or re-release of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment product with me.
Rush: Yes..I would recommend getting the films that you lack as soon as possible.
Rush: Not a bad idea.
hounder: going tp ebay post chat
sarabell2: I am trying to get one last one, Shadows over Chinatown
Rush: Yes, Steve.
Elron: amazon has it for 19.99
Hawaii_Steve: Chan Clan cartoons are still available on Oldies.com
Matt1: Isn’t there one Chan that wasn’t remastered?
Deacon Foxx + Angel: HS: That’s because you’re a man & not a, well, you know.
Louise: CUED here
Hawaii_Steve: Sellers on eBay are listing the FOX DVDs between $65 to $95 each collection. Over priced.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: And here.
sarabell2: I will buy it then.
Rush: Getting cued here…
Rush: Ready here, too!
Rush: Please pause at the opening title.
Rush: “The Chinese Ring”
Elron: there you go Rush. we can do a chan clan night as well. hint hint. lol
Rush: 7 1/2 minutes to go….
Hawaii_Steve: Chan DVDs are out-of-print. Not available at the following sites: Oldies.com. Amazon has 1 copy of Vol. 1 (2006), and 1 copy of Vol. 3 (2007)

Deacon Foxx + Angel: And GS!
Dona: Hello Everyone!
Matt1: Hello GS!

mda19083: hello dona and gs
Godwinshelley2: Hello – I’m cued here
Hawaii_Steve: Aloha ladies.
Louise: Hi Dona and GS
sarabell2: Hi Dona,
Godwinshelley2: NO intro on this DVD – straight to the film
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Tull up a tatami, set a spell!
Rush: But now they are tough at best to find online!
Rush: The only way we could do that is to get our own copies.
hounder: hi don and gs
Rush: I know some of us have them.
Rush: I do.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Good evening Dona and GS!
Rush: Dona and GS!
Godwinshelley2: I’m here
Dona: My Granddaughter’s Volleyball season is over so I shouldn’t have to miss again.
Rush: Opposite sides of the nation!
Dona: I’m very happy to be back.
Dave has joined this room
Deacon Foxx + Angel: *Pull*. Also, we know tatami are japanese; we’re only reaching for, not grasping, verisimilitude.
Rich-Maine has joined this room
Deacon Foxx + Angel: R-ME!
Rich-Maine: Evening all!
Rush: Actually, Steve is even farther removed from GS and others!
Dona: I think I have all the dvd’s that there are. Everything we use here. Is that all of it Rush?
Matt1: Hello Dave & Rich!
Dave: Greetings everyone,
Deacon Foxx + Angel: What part of Maine are you in, Rich?
Rush: Yes, Dona.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Is “Sky Dragon” on DVD?
Dona: OK Good.
Godwinshelley2: I believe it is
Dona: Hi GS
Dona: Hi Dave
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Sky Dragon is in my box set.
Dona: Hi Rich
Rush: As I say…our “Maine Man”!
Dave: Hi, Dona
Rich-Maine: Hi Matt, very tip of Southern main, Kittery. Oldest city! 375th birthday this year
Mike n Rachel in DC: OK. Have to track that one down…we’re missing the last two I think.
sarabell2: Hi Dave, Rich, and GS
Rush: Ty ALL for being here!
Hawaii_Steve: The Monograms Chan Collections are still available, but the Fox Chan are considered Out-of-Print now.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Hi Rich and Dave. HS: Good to know, thanks!
Rush: How’s your mother, Dave?
Rich-Maine: Ur in Mass, right Angel?
Rush: THREE minutes to go!
Dave: Greetings, sarabell…
Rush: Recent arrivals, please ready your copies….
Rush: At the OPENING TITLE!
Hawaii_Steve: Thanks Mike. In my collection, I have two copies of Chan Collection No. 3. Because of The Black Camel.
hounder: ready here
Dave: Hello, mike and rachel
Rush: Great idea, Steve!
Elron: ready here
Rich-Maine: Was thinking of costume for next week!
Dona: ready here rush
Hawaii_Steve: Standing by. Ready and willing. So to speak.
Rush: TWO MINUTES…
Mike n Rachel in DC: I ripped our DVD onto a hard drive, so we have a digital Chan library now. 🙂
Rush: 90 seconds…
Hawaii_Steve: Tonight is Roland Winters’ first appearance as Inspector Chan. Check him out.
Rush: 75 seconds…
Rich-Maine: Yes Mike, all mine on Plex server
Louise: I did that too, M&R
Mike n Rachel in DC: Much handier, I think
Rush: 60 seconds…
Rush: 50 seconds…
Hawaii_Steve: Mr. Winters would go on to play Elvis Presley’s father in Blue Hawaii (1961).
Deacon Foxx + Angel: M&R, come the e-pocalypse, you will have the nucleus of all we need!
Rush: 30 seconds…
Mike n Rachel in DC: First Chan on Mars…
Deacon Foxx + Angel: GONG
Deacon Foxx + Angel: MM!
Mike n Rachel in DC: Monogram Chan music is the best…
Hawaii_Steve: Notice how monogram states: “Charlie Chan in …” Not Roland Winters.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Cha-bing
Rush: Chabing is in this one.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: This is a DARLING screenplay!
Dave: Wonder if we can figure out a way to have a zoom call livestream….
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Chabing at Bada-Bing woulda been a dream event.
Rush: Angel…that’s “Dah-LING”
Rich-Maine: No fog?
Rush: Happy BB!
sarabell2: I would do a zoom. I would have to clean things up first.
Rush: The Princess.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Shoulders like a fullback.
Rich-Maine: No name
Rush: The style then.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Noe Naim
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Rush,
Hawaii_Steve: Notice 16mm projector.
Rush: Roland Winters’ first moments as Charlie Chan.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Who was that lady i didn’t see you with next night?
Dona: I think the shoulder pads came back in the 70’s or 80’s
Rich-Maine: Priva5e screening room
Rush: We saw this lady in “The Trap.”
Deacon Foxx + Angel: She in her kerchief & i in my cap. I feel pretty.
Dave: Who do you think Roland styled his characterization on?
Rush: Very different role!
Mike n Rachel in DC: Watch out for poison darts…
Rush: Screamed a lot!
Rush: Air gin.
Hawaii_Steve: Not fast enough.
Mike n Rachel in DC: …too late
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Happens every week.
Elron: is that the first or 2nd son?
mda19083: damn those poison darts
Matt1: <tin can>
mda19083: cue the can
Deacon Foxx + Angel: She is an ex-parrot. Er—ex-patriate.
Rich-Maine: The can!
Dave: ….joined ancestors….
Godwinshelley2: It’s more – damn those open first floor office windows. Will Chan never learn?
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Good catch, Rich! CAN, please!!
Rich-Maine: Exactly GS
mda19083: she’s nailed to the perch
Rush: TYSM, Matt…
Rush: “Capt K—–“
Hawaii_Steve: Tommy Chan. What happened to Jimmy?
Louise: Jimmy, Tommy, so confusing
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Thank you! Now put can in Send Tin To Tojo box outside office.
Dave: She has become FORMER princess…
sarabell2: Grocery list Captain Krunch
Rush: Jimmy becomes “Tommy” here.
Rush: However…he’s called Number TWO Son.”
Hawaii_Steve: Oh, I get it. Tommy is the twin brother of Jimmy. Hmmm.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Dave: We should have abdicated her FIRST. Just for the satisfaction.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: sarabell:
Rush: We can “conjecture” why Jimmy is now called Tommy.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Poisoned art!
Hawaii_Steve: Futhermore, Jimmy is living back in Honolulu, at the Punchbowl home, with Mrs. Chan.
mda19083: pigmy arra?
Rich-Maine: Close that window
Rush: Or…poisoned d’art?
Deacon Foxx + Angel: He has a 1910 Honus Wagner in his credenza, too.
hounder: that window is getting a lot of action
Elron: handcuff time! lol
Mike n Rachel in DC: Charlie needs a home security upgrade.
Rich-Maine: Yes mike
Rush: In 1947, that Wagner card wasn’t the valuable commodity it is today!
Deacon Foxx + Angel: MnR: definitely. I’d consider possibility Alexa & Siri & this babe might cahoot. A hen ring.
Dave: Uppitty reporter!
Elron: he has one Mike. Mantan Moreland is the siren. Every time something happens he screams.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Siri, who is the dead woman on my floor?
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Elton:
Hawaii_Steve: BTW, this is the cleanest print of a Chan film I have ever seen. Like it was shot yesterday.
Rush: Yes, Steve!
Rush: That is true!
Hawaii_Steve: Not a scrath to it.
Rush: All parties did a great job with the prints that were available!
Louise: SIRI: She’s the maid (Siri is always wrong)
Rush: No exception here!
Elron: Steve they should thank TMC that restored the chan films.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Which iteration of the film are you 2 (HS and Rush) watching? I’m using the 8-disc box.
Hawaii_Steve: “This is a man’s job, baby” won’t fly today.
Godwinshelley2: The TCM 4-disc set
Louise: I’m using the 4 disc set from TCM
Dave: Copy I have is passable quality…not great….
Rush: I have tonight the “TCM Charlie Chan Collection”
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Hey hey where’s the monkeys?
Rush: Four films.
Hawaii_Steve: Elron, is that true? TCM was involved?
Rush: “The old honey and molasses.”
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Rush: Four films and a funeral?
Hawaii_Steve: Yes, Rush. mantan has the best lines in this one.
Godwinshelley2: it says TCM Spotlight on the top of the box set
Elron: yes. TCM was. They restored them and was about to air them all when Star Trek boy came out screaming about it.
Mike n Rachel in DC: This must have been made before Monogram bought their fog machine.
Rush: Actually, any restoration was probably done by Warner Bros.
Dona: I have the same one Rush
Rush: They hold the rights to this and the three other movies.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: This loading dock later became Walter White’s methkitchen. Pollos Hermanos bought the building after the bottom fell out of`imported lingerie.
Rush: Yes, dona?
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Nobody EVER cables me.
Dona: The TCM copies
Dave: Slip in lingerie sales?
Dona: It is very clear
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Rush, this was PRE-’49 revolution, yes?
Hawaii_Steve: TCM Spotlight is a distribution title, not a restoration connection to the films.
Louise: Lingerie is so overated
Rush: I was in touch with someone from warner, and he was able to keep me fairly informed over several years as to the status of restorations and possible release.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: But it’s under someplace, Louise.
Rush: There were a couple that they literally searched the world to find a decent print.
Godwinshelley2: They did a great job with this one!
Rush: We will see this set again in “Docks of New Orleans.”
Deacon Foxx + Angel: It would have been a coup of another sort could they have got Mao himself in this film somewhere. Seeing as his lookalike had been in 2 earlier ones.
Rush: Everyone please remember that NEXT WEEK will be our annual HALLOWEEN PARTY!
Louise: This Chan has too many sayings to punctuate the moment. The other Chans used them more judiciously.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Gotcha!
Rich-Maine: Yes, Rush!
Rush: We will be watching “CC at the Opera” with Oland and KARLOFF!
Godwinshelley2: Yea!!! Boris
Dave: One of the best…
Hawaii_Steve: In 2006, I was called about the “lost” Chan films. Word got out that I own an original TV print of The Black Camel.
Elron: oh I thought TCM said they helped with the project and then it was pulled from airing without George Takei. my bad. sorry all.
Louise: What day is our Halloween party?
Dave: do tell, Steve…
Rush: They may have helped, Elron.
Godwinshelley2: My husband has nearly completed the Channary! – the downstairs media room – we just had 4 Chan film posters show up that we hung
Deacon Foxx + Angel: We’ll do The Mash, i hope!
Rush: I cannot say one way or the other.
Mike n Rachel in DC: clever Kong?
Louise: Perfect, GS
Rush: Captains Kelso and Kong.
Hawaii_Steve: In 2010, I played my 16mm print for Rush and Lou. Correct Rush?
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Looks like he’s ready to dance in Reservoir Dogs.
Godwinshelley2: We have 8 lobby cards from Chan films too that are framed and along one wall
Elron: nice steve
Rush: “Captain Kool and the Kongs”
Rush: Correct, Steve!
Dave: g/s, cool!
Rich-Maine: Large bracelet
Louise: Someday, GS, I will come visit
Rush: NICE, GS!!!
Mike n Rachel in DC: We’ve got a poster from “Them” … no Chans yet.
Rush: From different movies, GS?
Godwinshelley2: We got a few of those “raven lights” (birds holding bare bulbs) that we have in the room
Godwinshelley2: Yes all different films
Elron: Rush did Roland Winters wear the yellow suite in this film as well?
Hawaii_Steve: After communicating with the Programming Director at TCM, it is my understanding that when an old film is about to be released on DVD, it needs to have a commercial air date. Something to do with copyright.
Godwinshelley2: Most of the lobby cards are monogram – the posters are more Oland and Toler
Rush: I have some Lobbies that I have picked up over the years, too.
Godwinshelley2: I’ll have to take a couple shots and sent the photos off to you Rush
Rush: Still s are my main thing, though.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: The antennas all over the Prowl Cars were a real graphic event.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Where do you find the lobby cards and posters? Ebay?
Godwinshelley2: Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention for the Lobby cards
Deacon Foxx + Angel: I always use the Specie Bank. So do my pets.
Hawaii_Steve: I have a couple of original stills from The Black Camel. Cost me $70.00 each.
Godwinshelley2: Posters were reprints from AllPosters.com
Rush: Later: “Peking”
Rush: Now: “Beijing”
Rich-Maine: Charlie wants his chair
Godwinshelley2: Nice HS
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Then: May Ling.
Rush: Did I see those, steve?
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Now: Ex-parrot, uh, ex-patriate.
Godwinshelley2: Next weekend is the October Monster Bash near Pittsburgh
Louise: I get my posters and lobby cards on one of the few legitimate movie poster sites, emovieposter.com
Hawaii_Steve: GSW, are you going to the Monster Bash this year?
Deacon Foxx + Angel: His SISTER!
Hawaii_Steve: Rush, I believe so. In 2010, when you vacationed in Hawaii.
sarabell2: I love Halloween, I hope you go to that bash.
Dave: Is this like the slapping scene in Chinatown?
The Chinese Ring: Lilly Mae Wong
The Shanghai Chest: Receptionist
Godwinshelley2: No – not attending Monster Bash this year – I saw the Bash Guys at Mid-Atlantic and they were: not vaccinated, not masked, wearing stickers that looked like the “I’ve been vac’d” stickers but were not.
Godwinshelley2: I don’t want to reward bad behavior
Deacon Foxx + Angel: If they can’t charge him with Truancy they’ll charge him with Boy-ancy.
Louise: Good for you GS
Godwinshelley2: Maybe if things settle down more, I might go next June
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Silents was gold then.
Rush: The Chinese boy…
Deacon Foxx + Angel: His clothes all have mute buttons.
Dave: haha, deacon foxx/angel…
Deacon Foxx + Angel: TYSM, Dave!
Rush: Communicating through signs..
Hawaii_Steve: GWS, smart move. Too many are not taking the COVID panademic seriously.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: I STILL am amazed she’s his sister.
Rush: Yes, Rich…!!!!
Hawaii_Steve: Love the deaf little boy in this picture. Nice plot line.
Rush: Interesting transition…
Godwinshelley2: Sorry to hear about Colin Powell – I had attended one of his parties once – his wife was very nice
Rush: ChaYes, HS!
Elron: Steve when did Roland Winters die and where? I forgot. Been thinking about it since we started watching this one tonight.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: They weren’t obvious or heavy-handed in those days about what would now be virtue-signal plot or cast points.
Hawaii_Steve: Girl Newspaper Man. Love it.
Hawaii_Steve: GWS, yes. Shocking news.
Rich-Maine: The banker is in lots of shows
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Kelso? With an Olds VistaCruiser?
Rush: If I may: Roland Winters – November 22, 1904; Boston, Massachusetts – October 22, 1989; Englewood, New Jersey
Godwinshelley2: Love Roland Winters in the film “So Big”
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Do they really exchange much specie, or do they keep a lot of it?
Hawaii_Steve: Roland Winers died in 1989 in New Jersey. He was 84.
Rush: “The Bronson Building on Broad street.”
Elron: thanks steve.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Damn. I just missed RW.
Godwinshelley2: It’s always fun to see him on Addams Family
Dave: He played in a stage play with Shelly Winters, based on the Marx Brothers…
Rich-Maine: Charles Bronson had a building?
Rush: Yes, Dave?
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Rush: I’m reminded of Bob & Ray’s Baked Brown Bread Murder Case.
Louise: poor kid
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Alliteration alleviates all.
Rush: Angel…those guys were great!
Mike n Rachel in DC: I think the banker was also in one of the Thin Man movies
Dave: Don’t know if he stayed with the show, because it was a famous flop.
Elron: yes he was Mike.
Hawaii_Steve: Last week, we saw J. Carrol Naish interupation of Chan. Tonight is Mr. Winters’ turn. I have mixed feelings about both actors.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Can.
Mike n Rachel in DC: the art dealer, right?
Rush: Understood, Steve.
Elron: Mantan charlie knows he is dead stop with the siren. lol
Matt1: <tin can>
Hawaii_Steve: Speaking of Bob & Ray. They did a comedy parody of Chan on their radio show back in the 1950s. It is quite funny.
Godwinshelley2: That is one BIG button on that chair
Rush: Missed it.
Godwinshelley2: it was behind Chan when he was talking with BB
Rich-Maine: Great work officer
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Oland & Toler defined the role. Winters was maintenance man, good one but not pushing frontiers where no Chinese Swede had gone before.
Rush: Nice set!
Hawaii_Steve: Avaiable on YouTube.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Very Bartok-sounding music here…
Dave: nice, mike/racel…
Godwinshelley2: See the button on the chair Chan had been sitting in
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Must be cool in summer.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Uh-oh.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Hey! That’s my Red Ryder special. Take your stinkin’ hands off my BB gun.
Rush: Back for now…
Hawaii_Steve: Last night, I watched “Hollywood Cavalcade” (1939) for the first time. The film co-stars J. Edward Bromberg, one of the actors considered to take over the role of Chan after Oland’s death. Are I correct, Rush?
hounder: let us start at commencement
Dave: A Red Ryder!
Rush: yes you are, Steve!
Mike n Rachel in DC: Only after we get our degrees, Hounder
mda19083: you’ll put your eye out
Rush: he was in the running.
Dave: You could put someone’s eye out with that…
Rush: Gun ready…
Louise: Last night we watched “Capricorn One” but don’t judge me harshly…
Rush: That’s okay, Louise!
Rush: Why not?
Godwinshelley2: Was that the “we faked it” one or the Whoops accident in space?
Godwinshelley2: I can’t recall it too well
Hawaii_Steve: In the Hollywood film, Bromberg’s gestures were very Chan like. He could have played the role too.
Rush: I have never seen it.
hounder: is anyone else who is streaming to music not hearing sound now?
Louise: It is the faking of a landing on Mars and then killing the space crew…ooops, gave it all away
Dona: Last night I watched the Dodger game. I’m hoping the do better at home.
Rush: Interesting “find,” Steve!
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Last night i watched Cagney’s 1st directorial, “The Time of Your Life”.
Rush: Well, Dona, I remeber the ’65 Worlsd series.
Rich-Maine: Udderly bewildered
Hawaii_Steve: I hear the sound correctly.
Godwinshelley2: Watched “News of the World” – it was very good
Rush: They lost the fiorst two in Minnesota…swept the next three in L.A.
Louise: My husband is cheering in the other room so the Red Sox must havedone something good
Deacon Foxx + Angel: That hat looks like a hot-water bottle.
Dona: I’m hoping for the same this time Rush
Mike n Rachel in DC: Chan too, Rich. But Roland, you’re Chan three.
Rush: Yes, Angel!
Dona: lol Louise
Rush: Nice one, Lady!
sarabell2: Thank you Steve, I am going to look that actor up.
Mike n Rachel in DC: I think they could use a little counseling
Hawaii_Steve: Yes, I watched Hollywood Cavalcade due to the recreation of slapstick comedy with Buster Keaton and Jimmy Finlayson, et al. Great scenes.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Had she tossed that, she’d be in trouble with the PHONE COMPANY (remember Dr. Strangelove’s Coke machine scene?)
Rich-Maine: Back at Chan manor….
Mike n Rachel in DC: lol
Godwinshelley2: Would they sign their name in Chinese or use a Chop like in Japan?
Rush: Interesting how CC uses the magnifying glass on the projected slides.
mda19083: break out the big magnifying glass
Rush: A Monogram sound effect.
Rush: I am pondering that one, GS!
mda19083: who fired the poison dart
Dave: I’d make that chinese boy talk!
Godwinshelley2: I’ll have to ask my niece one day
Rush: Good question, MDA.
Rush: We should find the answer later.
Rush: Or…Chan should!
Mike n Rachel in DC: Nice doggy, nice doggy
Mike n Rachel in DC: LTF?
hounder: how loud it thunder how little it rain
Rush: Le Tung Foo
Dave: Seems like authentic oriental here…
Rush: Yes, Hounder.
Rush: A good one.
Hawaii_Steve: Willie Fung, who we just saw, was also in Hollywood Cavalcade. He worked a lot as house boy and drivers.
Rush: yakamein – A popular soup in several areas of the United States, sold mostly in small neighborhood bodegas of New Orleans in the past.
Birmingham Brown: “Watch them dogs! They’ll chew you into a mess of yakamein!”
Godwinshelley2: Just saw the Chantology set on ebay for $13
Rush: There you go, GS!
Godwinshelley2: My niece says they would use a Chop to “sign” their name in China during the 1940s
Godwinshelley2: She just texted me
Rush: Fur-lined lamp shade.
Rush: TYSM, GS!
Rush: Things get serious now.
mda19083: they are trying to strong arm Armstrong
Rush: “Major 4782.
Rich-Maine: major 4782 please
Dona: lol mda
Rush: YES, mda!!!
Dave: right, mda!
Elron: I thought it was funny. You said it right Mantan. lol
Hawaii_Steve: My mistake. That was Lee Tong Foo as Armstrong’s butler. I’m confusing my extra players.
Rush: Test pattern coat.
Godwinshelley2: Monogram LOVES plaid
Louise: That coat hurts
Rush: Lee Tung Foo was also Mr. Wong’s “butler.”
mda19083: LTF? WTF?
Godwinshelley2: picture it BRIGHT YELLOW
Rush: And, we see him in a couple of other Chan movies.
Rush: I can see that, GS!
Deacon Foxx + Angel: How about all the tea AND China?
mda19083: so why is charlie chan living in San Fran?
Dave: Was he on the boat, as the captains’ cook?
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Look at the schnozz on that gunsel.
Rush: Good question, MDA.
Elron: to stay away from his 13kids. lol
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Come On Down To My Boat, Baby
Rush: As we never hear anything regarding Mrs. Chan any longer, not to mention Tommy, something changed in Chan’s life, it seems.
Louise: Please don’t say Mrs. Chan threw him out
Rush: He probably retired from the Honolulu PD.
Godwinshelley2: Maybe the war effort brought him to the mainland
Rush: Maybe never went back after government service?
Elron: but his entire family was in Honolulu Rush.
Rush: yes, GS.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: I LOVE the hi-contrast black OR white street photography in Noir films, & lots of stuff in general from postwar to when places started getting “modern” outdoor lighting.
Dona: YaY BB
Rush: Also, there was a connection with CC and San francisco over the years.
hounder: car looked a lot lower in rear. low tire pressure?
Dona: he figured that out
Deacon Foxx + Angel: That COAT’S loud enough to announce to burglars.
Elron: wonder what the connect is Rush.
Rush: In the Biggers books, he had some extended family mambers thers.
mda19083: dead body in trunk
Godwinshelley2: Yes off Waverly st
Deacon Foxx + Angel: hounder: Maybe needed heavier springs?
Godwinshelley2: There was an uncle’s house up the street from Chinatown
Elron: the only book I have is house without a key. will check in that book after the movie.
Rush: also, in “The Golden Eye” we hear he is visiting the Chan family association there.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: mda: THAT was the Other Possibility i pondered broaching.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: WARREN G. HARDING, Desk Clerk
mda19083: yes angel!
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Now she looks like a caddy.
Rush: Black “halo” hat!
Deacon Foxx + Angel: NOW they’re DRIVING a Caddy. What the—?
Rich-Maine: Leave poor man in closet
Rush: I think that this alley appears in other Chan films from Monogram.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: I LOVE when BB does that mincewalk!! I gotta try it myself?
Rush: I think it is probably in an alley next to the studios.
Deacon Foxx + Angel: If i trip & fall, i’ll “see” all next week from hospital.
Louise: Bad tie Jimmy/Tommy
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Dubious is as dubious does.
Rush: THAT would make a nice costume, Angel!
Rush: For our Halloween Party!
Elron: there is a halloween party?
Rush: “Not – very – funny…”
Louise: Foxx and angel need to remember to wear costumes this year
Rich-Maine: Not very funny!
Rush: Next week is our annual CCF Virtual halloween Party!
Godwinshelley2: You mean “Chan related” costumes
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Rush, i used to drive limos back in the day; last year i looked at buying a not-too-co$tly one, & had i got it would have got the MOST Birmingham-style chauffeur’s getup i could. Had already shopped! Alas, not to be.
Rush: Come “costumed” as an character from any Chan movie….
Louise: WooHoo! I have my “costume” picked out already
hounder: nice rush. thanks for the reminder
Rush: Good or bad, human or animal!
Elron: I’m going to have to buy a yellow jacket and pants. lol
Rush: Just sign in as your character!
Louise: Better explain the Halloween party for the newbies Rush
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Elron, GOOD sartorialism!!
Godwinshelley2: Louise you scared him off
mda19083: yes please – i am a newbie
Godwinshelley2: You select a character from a Chan film
Deacon Foxx + Angel: I’m thinking of coming as Tarnevarro, or maybe the round-headed oldster in the Seance movie.
Godwinshelley2: Then you enter the chatroom and kind of pretend to be that character – don’t say who you really are
Louise: Sign in as the character and don’t tell anyone who you really are until the end
Deacon Foxx + Angel: This scene is great.
Godwinshelley2: Folks will try to guess as the evening goes on
Louise: That is the fun part, GS
Rush: TYSM for explaining while I was away.
Louise: Also, if you know your character well you can make comments like they would
Deacon Foxx + Angel: TYSM!
Dave: Sounds good….
Godwinshelley2: So if you go as they diner guy – you would talk about how good your stew is or ask if folks wanted refills on their coffee for a nickle
mda19083: how do i sign in as the character and not reveal who i am
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Imagine a GIANT LAAAAAAAZER shooting through a GIANT LIFESAVER!
Louise: good example GS
Rush: If you would like to get our weekly email, in which I will explani it again, please send to firstname.lastname@example.org
Elron: oh I have one in mind! I am ready!
Louise: When you sign in you have a choice of changing your signin name
Rush: OR…please check our Message Board here at our site!
Rush: Perfect, Elron!!
Deacon Foxx + Angel: sAN qUENTIN? Then, THEY can swim!!
Rush: Not around San Quentin…
Rush: lcatraz, perhaps!
Rush: Chan explains….
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Ah, YES, Rush! “Q” saw Bogie leave in a wastebarrel in Dark Passage, yes?
Rush: Nice film, Angel!
Rush: For the Chinese Boy…
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Only the best for me & Fox! We partiularly like Agnes M in the role of Madge, the busybody who goes out a window!
Dave: You missed the whole thing!
Godwinshelley2: Yes – that is a good role for Agnes
Deacon Foxx + Angel: Hahahahahahahahaha!!!
Mike n Rachel in DC: Charlie. How could you?
Godwinshelley2: Not likeing that saying
Deacon Foxx + Angel: A Brass Ring of a film!!
Dave: Broke the fourth wall..
Deacon Foxx + Angel: YAY!!
Rush: Chan can be forgiven….
Rich-Maine: Catch the ring! Excellent
Godwinshelley2: Halloween next week
Dona: Another good one.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Allowance for cultural differences…
Rush: THE END…
Mike n Rachel in DC: Overall very enjoyable!
Dona: It was so nice to be able to spend Monday with all of you again.
Hawaii_Steve: Mr. Winters breaks the fouth wall and speaking to audience, i.e. us !!!

Dona: See you all next week.

Rush: That would not be a bad thing.
Dona has left this room
