angel & fox has joined this room

angel & fox: is this liove?

angel & fox: liove?

angel & fox: liove?

Rush: And…the costume left behind…

angel & fox: liovelioveliove?

Rush: WELCOME angel and fox!

Matt1 has joined this room

Rush: Please, not that earworm just now, Angel!

Matt1: Hello Rush and A & F!

Rush: Hello, matt!

angel & fox: You make it nice to be here! We just managed to shed the costumes a minute ago, & boy are our arms tired!

angel & fox: Hi Matt!

Rush: Good evening to you!

angel & fox: Good eve, Rush!

Matt1: To you all as well!

Rush: I hope that you both had, or are having, a good Veterans day!

Matt1: Very nice, thnx

Rush: 🙂

Matt1: Off today?

Rush: Yes.

Matt1: How was the trip?

Rush: I just gotr back last night from my trip.

Rush: Very eventful…we may have our house.

Matt1: I bet it was COLD?

Rush: It was…but not unbearable.

Matt1: Congrats!

Rush: I just missed the first blast of winter.

angel & fox: This will be a brief appearance, & we do not speak of our ropas interiores, our underarmour. A sick friend requires transport from upstate NY to hospital in Boston, & the collective yours truly are leaving shortly.

Rush: WOW, Angel. A bit of a drive ahead.

Rush: I hope that your friend is well soon.

Matt1: Good luck, Angel and safe travels

Rush: Yes…BE SAFE!

angel & fox: Yes, but in a good cause. It’s about 4 hours. Thanks for the good wishes, guys.

angel & fox: We may actually listen to Colonel Willoughby on the road, hope he gets his before we reach Exit 6.

Rush: Yes…take care.

Rush: Very good, Angel.

Rush: I hope you can!

Rush: And, if you can listen also to “Docks of New Orleans,” you can do that, as well!

angel & fox: Thanks again, greetings to fellow detectives as they arrive. We shall don our fur (and fur our dons), set out, & return next week full of Tetragene & vinegar!

Matt1: As a FYI, I will be out the next two, maybe three weeks due to travel/vacation

Rush: Travel safe, Angel…

Rush: Please wish your friend well for us!

Rush: Next week: “Mr. Wong, Detective.”

Rush: Celebrating Boris Karloff’d birthday.

Matt1: Good film

Rush: Yes.

Rush: Actually, tonight’s movie has ties to one of the Mr. Wong pictures.

Rush: In fact…it is influenced by our film next week!

Rush: So, this gives us the opportunity to compare the two.

Matt1: Very cool

Rush: Yes!

Matt1: Though I will be away

Rush: And you will be missed!

Rush: Where are your travels taking you this time?

Matt1: Heading to San Fran Thursday, picking up a cruise back to Florida via Panama Canal….15 day cruise!

Rush: NICE!

Matt1: A “bucket list” trip

Rush: Take a copy of “Charlie Chan in Panama” with you to watch!

Matt1: lol, yes!

Rush: 🙂

Rush: You will be seeing some of the parts of the Canal noted in the movie.

Matt1: I may watch it again this week before leaving

Rush: Sounds good, Matt.

Rush: I know you will be having a wonderful time!

Rush: I love how the cruise takes you back home.

Matt1: We love cruising, so getting back on a ship is the most relaxing part for us

Rush: sy hello to Sr. Manolo’s relations.

Matt1: It’s called the “Ocean to Ocean” cruise

Rush: (say)

Rush: Yes…Pacific into the Atlantic as well as the Gulf.

Matt1: Yes

Louise has joined this room

Matt1: Love to log in here on the Mondays I’ll be away, but just can’t figure out how to do it, lol

Rush: Someday I would like Marie and I to take a cruise of some sort.

Matt1: Hello Louise!

Rush: Well, I suspect that there might be Internet availablity aboard ship!

Rush: Good evening, Louise!

Matt1: Mat has technology challenges though

Matt1:

Louise: Hi guys. I will be back later for the movie but I wanted to let you know, Rush, that I just emailed you 2 images of Warner Oland I came across in a 1937 LIFE magazine. Let me know if you have seen these before.

Matt1: Very cool!

Rush: Are those of Oland and his dogs?

Louise: One of his dog, one an ad for a car

Rush: AH!

Rush: I have that issue, but, another scan is always welcomed!

Louise: If you need them I will scan them this week and send you good copies.

Louise: OK

Rush: Take your time, but if you can, I think that the ad, especially, would be nice as it is over sized.

Louise: Back soon. Off to get food…

Rush: Okay!

Rush: Matt…

Matt1: Ready here

Rush: We should start the radio drama!

Rush: I need to get mine ready….

Matt1: Ok

Rush: Ready!

Rush: 25 seconds…

Rush: 20…

Rush: 15…

Rush: 10…

Rush: 5…

Louise has left this room

Rush: GO!!!

Rush: SORRY!

Rush: I forgot to send the go!

Matt1: That was a LONG 5 seconds

Rush: Are you running?

Matt1: lol….I’m running

Rush: Mine had a “false start” so I needed to click twice.

Rush: That threw me off.

Matt1: Ah

Rush: I heard a second of intro then nothing.

Matt1: Recap

Rush: Yes.

Rush: This time, the butler GOT it!

Rush: I love the Irish cop, here!

Matt1: Yes

Rush: We see that in the movies of the era, too.

Rush: I think I am still “recovering” from my trip.

Rush: I got home after midnight.

Matt1: Ugh….short trip and long travel

Rush: Yes….

Rush: Return: Moline to Atlanta, to San Diego.

Matt1: Atlanta can be a tough airport

Rush: Yes.

Rush: HUGE.

Matt1: Yes

Rush: Chan puts pieces of the puzzle together.

Rush: it seems that Inspector Duff has come in from England to assist.

Matt1: So will your new place have a “Chan Cave”?

Rush: Yes…the “office.”

Rush: Like we have today.

Matt1: Very nice

Rush: We are trying to work it so if my mother-in-law wants to come with us, she will have her own bedroom upstairs.

Rush: (ground level)

Matt1: Understood

Rush: Downstairs,(basement) has a bedroom possibility for one of the daughters, etc.

Rush: Nice place.

Matt1: More for the $ I bet

Rush: There is a golf course behind the home.

Rush: MUCH, matt!

Rush: Chan sets a trap…

Rush: Close to the Mississippi River.

Rush: Far higher than any flooding.

Rush: No view of it, though.

Matt1: Were the fires or power outages out in CA near you?

Rush: Mr. Chan gives his words of wisdom….after a word from our sponsor!

Rush: Not near.

Rush: L.A. is as close as they got.

Rush: Fires have been a part of california my whole life.

Rush: There are just more people today.

Rush: More affected.

Matt1: Yes, but those power outages too, yikes

Rush: As well as poor forestry practices due to environmental extremism.

Matt1: That’s what I understand too

Rush: Well, those are to prevent any sparking during high winds.

Rush: We have a “very enlightened” governor who blames every anomaly on “climate change.”

Rush: Plays well to his constituency.

Rush: Oh, well…Iowa and hoped for sanity becons….

Rush: I will leap off the soap box!

Matt1: lol….Yep….I shake my head a lot, but can only imagine the people who actually have to live there

Rush: We can start the movie in 11 minutes…

Rush: yes, Matt….

Dona has joined this room

Rush: A one party state today.

Rush: Dona!

Matt1: Hello Dona!

Dona: Hello everyone!

Rush: Good evening!

Matt1: NY same way

Rush: Oh, yes.

Dona: I agree with everything you said Rush. California is a mess.

Rush: TYSM, Dona…

Rush: Sometimes I feel a bit lonely in my thoughts!

Matt1: Biting your tongue starts to hurt after a while

Dona: Yes Matt!

Matt1: btw, I’m cued here

Rush: Yes, Matt!

Dona: I agree with that thought to Rush.

Rush: I have had to bite, and bite hard, over the years!

Matt1: That’s my Mattism for the night

Rush: Especially being a teacher!

Rush: 🙂

Rush: 8 minutes!

Rush: I like this film a LOT!

Rush: Music and credits….

Dona: Is this our first Roand Winters this year

Rush: I haven’t checked, yet, GS. I was out of town for a few days.

Rush: Got home late last night.

Godwinshelley2: They showed one of my favorite Earl Derr Biggers stories on TCM last week.

Godwinshelley2: Yes – and the email I sent you was a thank you.

Rush: AH!

Godwinshelley2: It will look SPLENDID on my Kar-Lofft

Rush: Sorry!

Louise: Who won the race last week?

Godwinshelley2: Master of Reality

Rush: CD’s horse.

Louise: excellent

Rush: I need an address to send the coin to.

Rush: I listened to the race live on teh Internet.

Rush: Fun.

Godwinshelley2: Fingers Crossed that he pops in tonight

Rush: yes.

Rush: BB did a variation on “incomplete talk” just then.

Louise: Yes Rush, I enjoyed trhat

Louise: typos tonight

Rush: My favorite bit!

Cdirus has joined this room

Louise: CD!

Rush: Louise…I am the biggest typo-ist!

Rush: AH!

Matt1: Hello CD!

Rush: WELCOME, CD!

Dona: Hi CD

Cdirus: Hi guys, Sorry I’m late. Priorites

Rush: You, of course, were this year’s winner!

Rush: Priorites take front seat, CD!

Godwinshelley2: CD was late – basking in the glories of the Winner Circle

Cdirus: Homemade apple pie

Rush: CD, I will need an address to send you your winner’s coin!

Matt1: Congrats CD!

Rush: You can email it to: charliechanfamily@yahoo.com

Cdirus: I won?!

Rush: YES!

Cdirus: Yea!

Louise: Would Charlie ever lose self-control?

Cdirus: Maybe

Rush: Louise, we have nevwer seen that….

Rush: Mabe once or twice he came close with an offspring!

Cdirus: Maybe when he was younger?

Rush: Yes, and that, too!

Rush: CD…with egg on my face…and jet lag to blame….

Rush: made a slight error….

Rush: 🙁

Rush: it was NT’s horse….

Rush: Sorry!

Louise: I had chili for dinner but tomorrow dinner will be super chilly: cold blast coming!

Godwinshelley2: Oh no – hold your tickets everyone!

Rush: I’ll send you a consolation prize, perhaps, too make amends…

Cdirus: Oops, That’s OK Rush, better luck next year.

Louise: OH NO Rush!!! What a tragic mistake. Will you finslly admit it was MY horse???

Rush: Yes, your horse fouled the winner.

Dona: LOL

Rush: (just kidding about the fouled…)

Cdirus:

Rush: I guess my feeble brain was taken in by the rhyme: NT…CD…

Godwinshelley2: You still have vacation brain –

Rush: That makes him a suspect before the cause.

Godwinshelley2: Hard to settle back into work

Rush: I was a bit scattered while away.

Rush: .

Rush: Plus my phone messed up for a while and I needed to go to Verizon to have it fixed.

Dona: I hate that

Godwinshelley2: Phone problems while on a trip are the WORST

Rush: We don’t know how much we depend on those things until they stop working!

Dona: It takes forever

Dona: very true

Rush: Did anyone hear the cmera’s shift during that last scene?

Matt1:

Rush: (camera’s)

Louise: Accident? Homicide?

Rush: TYSM, Matt…

Cdirus: This movie was a Mr. Wong wasn’t it?

Rush: and it looks like the “old days” to boot!

Rush: Yes, CD! You nailed it!

Rush: it is pased on the film for next week: “Mr. Wong, detective.”

Rush: We will be marking Boris Karloff’s birthday.

Godwinshelley2: While watching The Big Sleep, noticed a description of someone as having “a Charlie Chan mustache”

Rush: AH!

Godwinshelley2: Yes! William Henry Pratt

Cdirus: Usually it’s a Fu Manchu mustache

Rush: We can add that to our “Charlie Chan mentions” list!

Rush: Yes, CD, but Chan was noted!

Godwinshelley2: it was the bookstore scene

Rush: Yes, I think I recall that.

Rush: I have that one DVR’d, so I can look for it.

Rush: i want to watch that movie anyway…one of my favorites!

Godwinshelley2: good

Godwinshelley2: wonder if it is in the remake

Dona: I know that scene but I don’t remember that. I guess it’s a good reason to watch the movie again.

Godwinshelley2: Bogart is asking the good looking bookstore clerk to describe the owner of the bookstore across the street

Cdirus: I’ve not seen that movie yet

Cdirus: Only Casablanca

Rush: CD, I suspect you will enjoy it, too!

Godwinshelley2: It’s confusing if you concentrate on the storyline – just enjoy the acting

Rush: Another GREAT movie!

Rush: Yes, CD!

Dona: Agreed GS

Rush: I was happy to hear others say that, as I always thought it was ME!

Cdirus: Ok GS

Godwinshelley2: The Big Sleep is renowned for having a script that was just too confusing

Rush: But it is a fun ride!

Godwinshelley2: Will have to pull up the Robert Mitchum version

Dona: But I have watched it at lease 100 times.

Rush: maybe like some of actual life…does not always make sense!

Rush: yes, Dona!

Godwinshelley2: Bogart makes “cute” in a scene that reminds me of Harrison Ford acting “cute” in Blade Runner scene at the Burlesque House

Rush: Louise, Slowly but surely I am getting your screen-captured chats from the past formatted and added to the Chat Archive.

Rush: GS, one never knows that there was not an influence there?

Godwinshelley2: There is an “Hard-Boiled” vibe to Blade Runner

Rush: I think that the rear projection is actually showing a New Orleans street.

Rush: I haven’t seen that one for many years.

Rush: Mobile Jones.

Godwinshelley2: There are so many versions of Blade Runner anymore! I

Rush: Now we move into some incomplete talk.

Cdirus: I must be in the right spot, I was just going to say that

Rush: 🙂

Godwinshelley2: I’m a purist and like the original theatrical release with the Voice-Over – more hard boiled for me

Rush: I love the meaningless French thrown in there!

Rush: They owe “two bucks” on the parking.

Rush: “The ignorant always loud in argument.”

Rush: And, before that: “Even melon grown in shade will ripen in the end.”

Rush: That would be a little over $30 today.

Rush: ($2)

Matt1:

Louise: Jazzy music

Rush: POP!

Rush: Yes, Louise!

Dona: WOW

Rush: “Chop Suey Boogie”

Rush: Tommy just assisted his Pop…if accidental.

Godwinshelley2: Tortilla Bowl on her head

Rush: YES!

Rush: 🙂

Dona: Yes, the dip goes in the middle

Cdirus: More like a bundt pan

danventure has joined this room

Godwinshelley2: Wow – they didn’t spare the buttons on her jacket

Dona: Hi Dan

danventure: Evening, Everyone!

Rush: Good evening, DV!

Godwinshelley2: Hi Dan

Cdirus: Hi Dan!

Rush: WELCOME…and Happy Veterans Day!

Rush: How are you tonight?

danventure: Yes, thank you to all who have served!

Matt1: Hello Dan!

danventure: You know, I had never heard of this chapter in CC’s adventures.

Rush: “Coquina Bark”

Rush: Listen to the “s\mall talk” here.

Rush: GS’s husband is one of those honored today.

Godwinshelley2: Retired US Army Reserves – 22 years

Rush: Actually, should be so every day…but this one is set aside!

Rush: They both sprang from theit seats at the same time!

Cdirus: My dad is retired USAF, and my grandfather was in WWII

Godwinshelley2: His Draft number was VERY LOW during the Vietnam war – so he joined up – AND it turned out they decided NOT to call people up with numbers that year!

Rush: Very good, CD.

Rush: Two more honorees.

Dona: My Grandson is serving in Afghanistan right now.

Cdirus: What does that lady do when it rains?

Rush: I care every other weekend for a gentleman who was a bomber pilot in WW2.

Rush: Flew B-29s in the pacific.

Godwinshelley2: Rush, you do keep busy!!

Matt1:

Dona: WOW! He is a true hero

Rush: I guess I do, GS!

Rush: They ALL were and are, CD!

Cdirus: One of my favorite planes – the B-29

Godwinshelley2: Husband’s favorite was the B-25

Rush: yes.

Rush: The B-17 was a mainstay in Europe.

Godwinshelley2: We leave close to Dover and see lots of military planes flying (sometimes hovering) over head

Godwinshelley2: live

Rush: And those were really dangerous missions.

Cdirus: I had a chance to see a fly over of B-25’s celebrating the Doolittle Raid back in 2013 I think. Loved the sound of the old prop engines

Rush: Until the B-29s came along, theu could not fly at very high altitude.

Rush: Agreed, CD.

Rush: There is an air show nearby each year, and they usually fly a B-17 around. i love that sound, too!

Rush: Give hin the third degree!

Godwinshelley2: Wow – now a Salad Hat

Rush: 🙂

Dona: LOL

Dona: Interesting hats tonight.

Rush: Indeed!

Louise: The hat collection would make an interesting video, right after the fox fur collection!

Godwinshelley2: ]

Godwinshelley2: With a side visit to loud pajamas and ties

Dona: Yes Louise. A documentry

Rush: that should be our next project, Louise! 🙂

Godwinshelley2: Then a whole section on PLAIDS

Cdirus: Hiding behind the curtains

Rush: Yes…the “test patterns.”

Louise: I am thinking of several videos.

Rush: Yes.

Rush: And, the chips and dip have arrived.

Rush: This is similar ti the captains K of the last movie.

Dona: Guacamole and tortilla chips YUM

Rush: Accusations.

Louise: Holy guacamole: that hat!

Godwinshelley2: Peplums were quite the fashion for this film

Rush: Dona: 🙂

Matt1: lol

Louise: Yes peplums

Rush: Excuse my ignorance, but…PEPLUMS?

Godwinshelley2: The flounce at the bottom of the suit jackets the women wear

Rush: AH!

Cdirus: Learn something new every day

Louise: Peplums make your butt look big

Godwinshelley2: It usually is at waist level and has a little bit of ruffle in the flow

danventure: Fortunately, i found “Docks” on Vimeo. So at least I’ll have a taste of Roland Winters as our beloved CC.

Rush: Ah…like bustles….

Godwinshelley2: Depends on the amount of ruffle

Rush: Learn something new each day…!

Godwinshelley2: The secretary at the start was wearing a jacket with a peplum

Rush: Sounds like something to be used in a trivia question!

Godwinshelley2: It softens the otherwise hard look of a suit

Louise: GS: look slike you are in the peplum club. Me, I can’t carry it off

Godwinshelley2: My favorite suit that I bought at Harrods in London had a peplum

Godwinshelley2: And it no longer fits me

Rush: Harrods.

Godwinshelley2: Yes –

Rush: actually went there long ago.

Godwinshelley2: The women in Dynasty wore suits with peplums ALOT

Rush: BB gets knocked out!

Rush: Next…

Rush: Tommy.

Rush: Her grimace tells all.

Dona: oh dear

Rush: CC walks into the trap…willingly?

Rush: “He who squanders today talking about yesterday’s triumphs, have nothing to boast of tomorrow.”

Louise: My husband is worthless: he called AGAIN during the chat! Sheesh!

Rush: Louise…isn’t that what we husbands are for?

Rush: 🙂

Godwinshelley2: He knows you “aren’t busy”

Rush: Must gather at leisure what may use in haste.

It is fool in hurry who drink tea with fork.

Rush: Vintage shoulder pads.

Louise: Tonight I am drinking sarsaparilla tea which I found in the store today. Charlie’s favorite tea!

Rush: NICE, Louise!

Rush: Super appropriate!

Dona: How is it Louise?

Rush: I am imagining the possible taste, myself.

Louise: Yes, look for it: TAZO apple and sarsaparilla. I’ve never seen it before

Louise: Very tasty

Rush: Necessity drive hard bargain.
He who goes into hills after tiger must pay price.

Rush: Seems that Chan is saying as many aphorismas as possible here!

Cdirus has left this room

Rush: Recall in the TV Chan series where a similar thing as we will see here is used by Mr. Chan.

Rush: “Blind Man’s Bluff.”

danventure: Where in the show is everyone?

Godwinshelley2: 58:00

Rush: 58:10

Rush: 58:40

Rush: Nice work, BB and Tommy!

Rush: Working our way toward the climax….

Rush: Ship with too many pilots sometimes have difficulty reaching port.

Rush: Mr. Grock.

Rush: “The Tomata.”

Dona: the tomata

Dona: LOL

Louise: Yes Charlie is over thetop on aphorisms

Rush: 🙂

Rush: Recall the old Ella Fitzgerald commercial?

Louise: Shattering the glass?

Rush: Yes!

Rush: It CAN happen.

Dona: Yes!

Rush: We will see that the death traps were set off in a different way in next week’s movie.

Rush: After dinner is over, who cares about spoon?

Rush: Wherever one is not, that is where heart is.

Rush: We will now be joining Chan and company in San Francisco….

Rush: THE END

Rush: (Applause)

Rush: BUT…

Rush: Next week….

Matt1:

Dona:

Rush: “Happy Birthday, Boris Karloff”

Rush: With….

Rush: “Mr. Wong, Detective.”

Matt1: HBD BK!

Louise: Mr Wong returns!

danventure: Great!

Rush: Yes.

Godwinshelley2: Yes Happy Birthday to Boris

Dona: I like those

Rush: We can then compare the two films.

Godwinshelley2: How fun

Godwinshelley2: This one is easier than the one with the dogs

Matt1: Good night folks and I’ll see you again in two or three weeks…..Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Rush: So…I thank you ALL for a wonderful evening!

Rush: as always…YOU made it what it was!

Godwinshelley2: Have a safe (and warm) week everyone!
