I am happy to know it arrived.

11-18 18:30
Barbie Dahl:
Completely unexpected and very sweet.

11-18 18:30
Matt:

11-18 18:30

11-18 18:31
Rush:
Doing well, thank you!

11-18 18:32
Matt:
Oh, as a FYI, I will be traveling next Monday for Thanksgiving, so I won’t be here

11-18 18:33
Rush:
I was busy writing two Chan articles. One on “Charlie Chan in London” and the other for the CCF newsletter for this year

11-18 18:33
Rush:
Okay, Matt.
Thank you…and enjoy the break!
Lost BD…

11-18 18:33
Matt:
Very good….I can’t wait to read them

11-18 18:33
Barbie Dahl:
Here I am

11-18 18:34
Rush:
The “London” one will be in some sort of mystery publication…maybe an online version.
Welcome back!

11-18 18:35
Matt:
Also, I think I only have 5 or 6 more Chans here before my cruise!

11-18 18:35
Barbie Dahl:
Wanted to switch phones so I can send this…

11-18 18:35
Matt:

11-18 18:37

11-18 18:37
Rush:
Tonight we have two extras.
Both relate to San Francisco in the ’40s.

11-18 18:38
Rush:
we can wait to see if more arrive on time to share them with us…

11-18 18:41
Rush:
If anyone needs to use the online copy of our movie tonight, you will be asked to accept cookies. You don’t have to.
It is the only copy I could find online.

11-18 18:42
Rush:
It’s address indicates it is a Russian link!
Looks okay…but I would not use cookies.

11-18 18:42
Matt:
Hope nobody from the gov’t knocks on our doors

11-18 18:42
Rush:

11-18 18:43
Matt:
I didn’t even notice the link
Maybe they have a lost film or two?

11-18 18:43
Rush:
Ironically, I was watching “The Russians are Coming! The Russians are Coming!” on TCM before entering the Chat Room!

11-18 18:43
Matt:
lol

11-18 18:43
Rush:

11-18 18:44
Barbie Dahl:
My wife, Yvonne, loved San Francisco
That’s a great movie, too, Rush. Dick Van Dyke, right?

11-18 18:45
Rush:
The City by the Bay….

11-18 18:45
Matt:
Beautiful city…..sad to see it today though

11-18 18:45
Barbie Dahl:
Great hills for skateboarding

11-18 18:45
Rush:
No Dick VanDyke…but Jonathan Winters.

11-18 18:45
Barbie Dahl:
Or driving a Mustang down…

11-18 18:45
Rush:
LOTS of hills.

11-18 18:46
Matt:
I did a Segway tour there……I almost went down! Freaked my wife out on those hills, lol

11-18 18:46
Barbie Dahl:
Hmmm, who was the main protagonist?

11-18 18:47
Rush:
A long time ago, I drove a truckload of a museum show up there from San Diego. It was a rental truck with a bad transmission! I was really concerned about the hills!

11-18 18:47
Barbie Dahl:
Oh, right. Brian Keith

11-18 18:47
Matt:
I can imagine, lol

11-18 18:48
Barbie Dahl:
Ooo, that DOES sound sketchy, Rush.

11-18 18:48
Matt:
Aamaco must do a goooooood business there

11-18 18:48
Rush:
Not just one protagonist. it reminded me of “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.”
True, matt!!!

11-18 18:49
Rush:
Okay….
Our first extra: 1948 San Francisco

11-18 18:50

11-18 18:53
Louise:
Hi Gang! Just stopped in to say Hi! I have projects to get done for a class I am taking so can’t stay. But I am watching the San Francisco video.

11-18 18:53
Matt:
Very nice Rush, thnx

11-18 18:53
Rush:
That one focused on the cable cars….

11-18 18:53
Louise:
I remember helping to turn the trolley in SF!

11-18 18:54
Rush:
The next one: Oakland – San Francisco Bay Bridge 1940s in color [60fps, Remastered] w/sound design added

11-18 18:54
Barbie Dahl:
How did they do that, Louise

11-18 18:54
Matt:
They are cool….an experience.

11-18 18:54
Rush:
Yes, Louise?
FUN!

11-18 18:55
Rush:

This one goes for about 8 minutes…
Ready?

11-18 18:55
Louise:
You would get to the end of the line and hop off to help turn the car. Don’t know if they still allow it. This was the 1980s.

11-18 18:55
Matt:
Yep

11-18 18:55
Barbie Dahl:
Oh, on the giant turntable

11-18 18:56

11-18 18:59
Rush:
We are watching our second extra!

11-18 19:00
Barbie Dahl:
I remember driving over it on my way from Incline Village to San Francisco in 1994 shortly after the Rangers won the Stanley Cup
Hello Nothere 👋🏻

11-18 19:00
Rush:
It features the Bay Bridge as seen in the ’40s.

11-18 19:01
Nothere:
So befoire the movie starts is there anything anyone wants to get off their chest?

11-18 19:01
Rush:
This one was replaced by a new bridge not too many years ago.
My chest is clear, NT!

11-18 19:01
Matt:
So this bridge is no more?

11-18 19:01
Rush:
Not the old one, I believe.

11-18 19:18
Rush:

11-18 19:20
Rush:

Hold a knife over your dead uncle!

11-18 19:20

11-18 19:20

tenman:
Fancy can!

11-18 19:20
hounder:

11-18 19:20
Nothere:
Would you believe it was the one armed man?

11-18 19:21
Rush:

11-18 19:21
Nothere:
Quick Bates don’t be late to get to the gates.

11-18 19:21
Barbie Dahl:
GS, self taught for a long time then took a workshop with a whip artist who had been a circus performer to polish the rough edges. Been throwing for about 53 years now

11-18 19:22
Rush:
“The Hatchet in the Head”
BB theme music….

11-18 19:22

Matt:
Impressive BD!

11-18 19:22
Nothere:
Jockey, budding Indiana Jones. I suspect you have many odd talents Barbie.

11-18 19:23
Barbie Dahl:
😝

11-18 19:23
Mike in DC:
Very cool, Barbie!

11-18 19:23
hounder:

11-18 19:23
Rush:
Nice scene transition!

11-18 19:23
Nothere:
Tommy you deal with actual murders do you really need to go to the pictures for more? I’m starting to think he has a complex.

11-18 19:23
Rush:
Yes, NT1

11-18 19:24
Godwinshelley:
Nice Barbie – I had a few lessons – got my whip from Western Stage Props in Las Vegas – very helpful and good for beginner whips

11-18 19:25
Rush:

11-18 19:25
Mike in DC:
“many little animals present”

11-18 19:25
Nothere:
But how many times have you whipped yourself?

11-18 19:25
Rush:
Yes, Mike…

11-18 19:25
Godwinshelley:
Long sleeves, eye protection and a hat while learning because it’s all too often

11-18 19:26
Nothere:
Well considering how often Chan’s kids break in places it was only a matter of time.

11-18 19:26
Rush:
Flashback…

11-18 19:26
Rush:
True.
Another flashback…

11-18 19:26
Barbie Dahl:
Whenever I do a whip workshop, NT, I always tell them they are going to hit themselves a lot when practicing and probably hurt themselves more by accident than they will hurt others on purpose.😝

11-18 19:27
Nothere:
It;s o.k. but to have a flashback in a flashback would be impressive.
This I believe Barbie.

11-18 19:28
Barbie Dahl:
De I’m jackets are good protection. Yes, GS, eye protection, too, and, for some, ear plugs.
*DENIM jackets

11-18 19:28
hounder:
lol. kinda like using nunchukas bd. same thing applies.

11-18 19:28
Rush:

11-18 19:28
tenman:
I found some humor a bonfire party a couple years ago; several of the blowhard self-styled alpha males from work (20-somethings) ended up with bloody gashes and welts on their arms trying to master the host’s bullwhip, fancying themselves cowboys. they were a bit more tolerable and less puffed-up after that.

11-18 19:28
Nothere:
He’ll get your money. I’ll be the judge of that.

11-18 19:28
Barbie Dahl:
Yes, you gotta use the practice ones and graduate to the real wooden ones

11-18 19:28
Godwinshelley:
I got into practicing the bullwhip because of Chang Apana!!

11-18 19:29
Rush:
Russell Hicks: District Attorney Frank Bronson
We first saw Russell Hicks in “CC in Shanghai”

11-18 19:29
hounder:
yup. bd. can’t tell youo how many times i hiy myself in he head while i was learning

11-18 19:29
Barbie Dahl:
My mom got me a whip at the circus when I was a kid. I was lucky enough to not take out an eye or cut off an ear.

11-18 19:30
Godwinshelley:
There was one of Apana’s whips at the museum at the Honolulu Police Dept

11-18 19:30
Matt:
How cool GS

11-18 19:31
Nothere:
Did everyone here train with a whip?

11-18 19:31
hounder:
neat gs

11-18 19:31
Barbie Dahl:
Practicing new cracks and combos is the most dangerous. I once had a thong crawl up my back and over my head. The knot in the cracker wound up hitting me on my lower eyelid. Thankfully only resulted in a bruise

11-18 19:32
hounder:
oh that was ouch and lucky bd

11-18 19:32
Barbie Dahl:
That one guy sounds A LOT like Milton berle

11-18 19:32
Godwinshelley:
I practice on styrofoam plate strips and spagetti

11-18 19:32
Nothere:
Is it just me or does she seem a bit biased towards the nephew?

11-18 19:32
Rush:
Never be in a bank at midnight…

11-18 19:33
Rush:
The figure in black….

11-18 19:33
Nothere:
Banking at Midnight. Actually not to far off a Chan title.

11-18 19:33
Rush:

11-18 19:33
Nothere:
Remember don’t look suspicious.

11-18 19:34
Barbie Dahl:
I like to use tree leaves. Helps with targeting. You pick a leaf between other leaves, try not to hit them and try not to cut the target leaf. Also, wall switches, turn them on and off.

11-18 19:34
Matt:

11-18 19:34
Godwinshelley:
You are more advanced than me.

11-18 19:34
Rush:
TYSM…Matt…

11-18 19:35
Godwinshelley:
We have a lot of kids in the neighborhood and I’m shy about practicing outside.

11-18 19:35
Nothere:
Aha he’s a thief the murders are just a clever ployt to cover the thefts.

11-18 19:35
Barbie Dahl:

11-18 19:35
Rush:
And….note the Campbell’s soup cans….!

11-18 19:35
Barbie Dahl:
Flies on the ceiling are good targets for my signal whips.

11-18 19:36
Godwinshelley:
I haven’t found anyone to practice with out here in Delaware

11-18 19:37
Nothere:
Curious does Charlie get paid ot for all this voulentering to work for other departments?

11-18 19:37
Barbie Dahl:
I used to go out to the local parks with some of my kinky friends to do practice sessions. In YC it doesn’t really get anyone to bat an eye
*In NYC

11-18 19:38
Nothere:
Kinky friends? Not gonna ask….not gonna ask.

11-18 19:39
Rush:
Armstrong…Bronson…?

11-18 19:39
Mike in DC:

11-18 19:39
Godwinshelley:
That plaid coat is large

11-18 19:39
Barbie Dahl:
Once, in Prospect Park, I stopped while to female Equestrian cops passed by but they stopped and told me to crack my 8foot bull at the horses. They didn’t e en flick an war, well trained not to startle from gunshots.

11-18 19:39
Godwinshelley:
When I think of non-foxfur coats in Chan films, this is the coat that comes to mind first

11-18 19:39
Rush:

11-18 19:39
Barbie Dahl:
*while TWO

11-18 19:40
Godwinshelley:

11-18 19:40
Rush:

11-18 19:40
hounder:
nice bd.

11-18 19:41
Godwinshelley:
I used to work in downtown Baltimore. Once there were all these emergency vehicles and sirens accompanying a flatbed truck with a downed police horse that had been shot. They were rushing it to medical care.

11-18 19:42
Rush:
Sad.

11-18 19:42
Barbie Dahl:
I used to perform every year in the NYC Pride March, walked with my organization. Cracking an 8 foot bullwhip in 6 inch heels. I’d do a combo or two, tell everyone not to try the next trick at home then use the whip to jump rope to the next block.😂

11-18 19:42
hounder:
hope they got the horde help in time

11-18 19:42
Rush:

11-18 19:42
Godwinshelley:
That’s a good one for busking whips

11-18 19:43
Nothere:
Judith Myers?

11-18 19:43
Mike in DC:
dig.

11-18 19:43
Barbie Dahl:
I’ve trained many professional Dominatrixes and lifestyle kinksters in how to use whips and play safely with them.

11-18 19:44
Rush:
They don’t dig the gig of digging….

11-18 19:44
Godwinshelley:
Safety is always important

11-18 19:44
Nothere:
Don’t ask… Don’t ask

11-18 19:45
Rush:
Looks like a “Plan 9” graveyard….

11-18 19:45
Barbie Dahl:
“Don’t even point at it. That’s enough of that one!”

11-18 19:45
Matt:

11-18 19:45
Godwinshelley:

11-18 19:45
Rush:

11-18 19:46
Barbie Dahl:
You read my mind, Rush

11-18 19:46
Mike in DC:
makes Monogram look high-budget, Rush.

11-18 19:46
hounder:

11-18 19:46
Mike in DC:

11-18 19:46
Rush:
Here we go visiting ALL insurance companies in SF!!!

11-18 19:47
Mike in DC:
when do we get to the Zylstra Insurance Co?

11-18 19:47
Barbie Dahl:
I tell my nephews and necessary that I’m at the age where I go to bed healthy and wake up injured!

11-18 19:47
Godwinshelley:
Acme insurance – for when those holes and dynamite stop working

11-18 19:47

11-18 19:47
Godwinshelley:
I miss the exciting walking music.

11-18 19:47
Rush:

11-18 19:47
Mike in DC:
No trombones this time, NT. Relatively calm for Monogram strolls.

11-18 19:48
Nothere:
Does anyone in the world not know Charlie?

11-18 19:48
Barbie Dahl:
How the hell does spell check change nieces to necessaries?

11-18 19:48
Barbie Dahl:
IKR, Nothere

11-18 19:48
Nothere:
It wants to show off?

11-18 19:48
Rush:
Ah…the wonders of technology, BD….

11-18 19:49
hounder:
spell check has an amazing ability to reinvent words

11-18 19:49
Barbie Dahl:
Yup, sounds just like Milton Berle

11-18 19:49
Rush:
….Shakespere…
HM! A double post!

Close your eyes when Ruark talks… Uncle Miltie speaks.

11-18 19:52
Godwinshelley:
I don’t see the necessity to murder in alphabetic order – unless you have extreme OCD

11-18 19:53
Rush:

11-18 19:54
Rush:
Duncan…

11-18 19:54
Mike in DC:
