Rush: Marie had one eye done some years ago.

Rush: HUGE difference!

Rush: How about you?

hounder: not much colorwise, but big difference in fogginess and sharpness.

Rush: Marie’s other eye was okay. One had a pretty serious cataract.

Rush: Yes.

Rush: That’s good!

hounder: this onw was just annoying like a piece of lint i couldn’t move out of my way.

Rush: Shortly after her recovery, marie was amazed that some stars in the sky were different colors!

Rush: She asked: “Was that one always purple?”

hounder: lol.i’ve heard of that happening to others.

Rush: Yes. That would definitely be annoying!

Rush: Yes.

Rush: Like seeing the world for the first time!

Rush: 🙂

hounder: really was annoying when i was doing handcrafts

Rush: Of course!

Rush: It might be just us for the radio program.

Rush: Next year, we have only movie serials with Keye Luke.

Rush: I was able to get our 2020 Calendar done.

hounder: maybe so. i’ve got it open

hounder: great. hopefully next year i’ll actually have internet in nc and won’t disappear on you guys.

Rush: Mine’s ready, too.

Rush: We’ll give it a couple minutes more…

hounder: Are you all decorated and ready for Chrisymas? and did you tell me what Sarah in working at?

hounder: sorry for the typos.

Rush: Sarah works at a place called “O’s Kitchen.”

Rush: restaurant.

Rush: At a local mall.

Rush: She seems to be doing pretty well. Proud of her.

Rush: And, yes, decorating is complete!

Rush: How about you?

hounder: nice. all work experience will come in handy. it’s so hard to believe she’s old enough. have you heard from va lately?

Rush: Let’s start our countdown?

hounder: ready

Rush: She calls fairly regularly.

Rush: I was working my second part time job this weekend and missed the call.

hounder: pleae tell he hi next time you talk. i miss her here

Rush: She has been sounding good.

Rush: Organ music.

Rush: So, that would have been live.

hounder: i’m a little behind. i had trouble getting it to start

Rush: No problem.

hounder: just starting organ music

Rush: This was recorded just before the end of World War 2.

Rush: Talking about ending the war.

hounder: interesting tidbit and explains the annoucner

Cdirus has joined this room

Rush: Nice background sounds.

Rush: Frogs and crickets.

Cdirus: Nice description of body

Rush: This one has live organ accompanyment.

Rush: Newspaper “bulldog editions.”

hounder: dream about murder

Rush: Yes.

Rush: Mysterious call.

Rush: Hm! Eberhard.

Rush: Same name from “Charlie Chan Carries On.”

Cdirus: Thought so. Sounded familiar

Rush: Interesting.

Rush: “One corpse and two suspects.”

Rush: Cap gun!

Rush: Merchant Marine.

hounder: like you can really outrun a gun

Rush: Yes!

Rush: This is the only part we have….

Rush: It seems it was a daily program.

Rush: Okay…

hounder: hmmmmm okay. who dunnit?

Rush: 12 minutes until “The Sky Dragon.”

Len Freeman has joined this room

Rush: Hello, Len!

Rush: Welcome!

Len Freeman: Hi Rush,

hounder: hi lf

Cdirus: Hi Len!

Rush: just finished the radio drama.

Rush: How are you this evening?

Len Freeman: Just a quick drop in tonight… we’re in the middle of doing Christmas cards here

Rush: AH!

Len Freeman: Seems like the list gets longer and longer…

Rush: I would say that’s a good thing, Len!

Len Freeman: Still, nice to stay in touch with friends over the years

Len Freeman: CD & Hounder.. have your shopping done?

Rush: My mother-in-law is really good at that!

Louise has joined this room

hounder: mostly. lf. not much shopping to do.

Len Freeman: Bless her… BTW is she in Iowa by any chance?

Louise: Shopping? Did someone say Christmas shopping???

Cdirus: Not really, got to get a couple of gifts for a giving tree kid.

Len Freeman: Hi Louise

hounder: it is a good thing to stay in touch lf

Louise: Hi all

Rush: Hello, Louise!

Rush: WELCOME!

Rush: How are you tonight?

Cdirus: Hi Louise!

Louise: Doing fine. Finishing up the wrapping.

Rush: Yes…’tis the season!

Rush: 🙂

Godwinshelley2 has joined this room

Louise: Hope the scans I sent were useful

Godwinshelley2: Hello all

Louise: Hi GS

Rush: Our family Christmas party nears.

Rush: GS!

hounder: hi gs

Rush: WELCOME to YOU!

Godwinshelley2: Hello – still trying to get my cards out

hounder: hi louise

Godwinshelley2: I’m WAYY late on them this year

Louise: Hi hounder

Rush: I hope you and yours are happy and well tonight, GS…

Len Freeman: We’re empty nesters this year… so wrapping and mailing are the big jobs here

Cdirus: Hi GS!

Rush: Yes, Len!

Louise: I gave up on cards years ago but it is nice to see the generation of my nieces and nephews picking it up.

Godwinshelley2: Ugh – when we were overseas we had to wrap and mail by early November

Len Freeman: We got our packages off on Friday, but now we’re into the cards tonight…. which is why I won’t be staying….

Godwinshelley2: They were worried about bombs on the base (1980s) – they wanted me to unwrap packages I received at the On-base post office to take them off base

Len Freeman: WOW

Louise: GS: I’m working on the Chan tarot. Just typed in the Major Arcana titles and will do thnumbering next.

Rush: WOW (also!).

Louise: the numbering

Godwinshelley2: I told them I would take them back to my husbands office and leave them there – they could worry about IF it was ticking

Rush: Yes, Louise?

Godwinshelley2: They decided to let me take them off base then

Godwinshelley2: Nice Louise – doing a deck is a big undetaking

Rush: You will need to unveil them, perhaps, as we watch “Charlie Chan’s Secret.”

Louise: GS sent me ideas for the cards, I have been downloading images from the films on this site, a design is next.

Len Freeman: I’ll try to stop back in tonight if we get finished here in time.

Len Freeman: Best all

Rush: And you, too, Len!

Louise: YES GS, a big job but once the design is done, putting in the images will be easier

Rush: Drop in if you have time later!

Louise: Bye len

Rush: 4 minutes…

Len Freeman has left this room

Godwinshelley2: Might want to color code each suit and look at the Knight images of the originals – they tell time – from horse galloping (fast), to trotting (medium), to walking (slow) to standing still

Rush: Please ready your copies of “The Sky Dragon.”

hounder: is everyone getting their baking done?

Louise: GS: so much to look at!

Godwinshelley2: I know – and there is water imagry in the Wands suit

Rush: Soon.

Godwinshelley2: Wands is a lot about travelling

Rush: TWO minutes to go….

Louise: Well I may have to change the wands, swords, cup, etc into something more Chan-like

Godwinshelley2: Yes I understand that

Rush: 90 seconds…

Louise: CUED here

Godwinshelley2: cued

Rush: 75 seconds…

Rush: Very good!

Cdirus: Ready!

Rush: 60 seconds…

Louise: eating pomegranites here: looks like blood splatter

Rush: 50 seconds…

Godwinshelley2: ha

hounder: ready

hounder: lol@louise

Rush: 40 seconds…

Cdirus: Yuck

Rush: 30 seconds…

Rush: 25…

Rush: 20…

Rush: 15…

Cdirus: Although I have fountain pen ink that looks like blood

Rush: 10…

Rush: 5…

Rush: GO!!!

Louise: GONG!

Rush: Title and music….

Rush: Credits….

Rush: “Still” shot of the airliner.

Rush: Nice how it “comes alive” at the start…

Rush: Here.

Louise: ah. never noticed that before

Louise: How many scenes in airplanes in the Chan movies?

Rush: Chan and son.

Louise: Lois Lane

Rush: Lee’s interest in piloting was noted briefly last week in “The Feathered Serpent.”

Rush: Yes, Louise!

Louise: They used to give out pillows until just a few years ago

Godwinshelley2: Bed bugs?

Rush: $60,000.

Louise: ewwww, gs

Rush: Nearly a million in today’s dollars!

Godwinshelley2: I have a neck roll that unrolls into a fleece poncho if I get cold – for travelling

Rush: Sounds practical, GS!

Louise: The captain is serving coffee?

Godwinshelley2: I pulled out my typewriter and typed up a letter and accompanying documents for a package I was mailing out last week. I kinda miss typing.

Louise: My son just bought an old typewriter. He thinks it is cool

Godwinshelley2: Does it have the dual color tibbon?

Godwinshelley2: ribbon

Rush: I love the sound of the old-fashioned typewriters.

Rush: Cue the song: “The Stripper.”

Louise: no I think just black

Godwinshelley2: I would love to take it to a Starbucks and type there

Cdirus: Are ribbons available, or do you reink the old one?

Godwinshelley2: Yes I bought a couple ribbons last year

Rush: GS, I think a few heads would turn, and the glares would be stifling!

Louise: That would be funny GS

hounder: i’m surprised ribbons are available still.

Godwinshelley2: And my local office equipment store did a tune-up on my typewriter – I asked they guy for any special words of wisdom after working on my machine and he said “remember this is the 21st century”

Rush: (SPLASH!)

Godwinshelley2: He started on typewriters – but wasn’t happy about working on one now

Louise: Rush, can you tell us why Lee is back in these stories?

Rush: Funny, GS!

Rush: Tell him you’ll be bringing in a grammophone next week!

Godwinshelley2: What was Keye doing around this time

Godwinshelley2: My aunt collects phonographs that use the cylinders

Rush: he and Pop are headed to San francisco.

Godwinshelley2: I can land it on a dime too!!

Rush: Noting in particular was happening till now.

Godwinshelley2: silent servant of automatic pilot

Rush: Lee was advancing his knowledge on the art of piloting an airliner.

Rush: It would be interesting to speculate on the new career lee was about to embark on!

Rush: Yes, GS!

Rush: Not a great idea for a murderer to kill people while confined to a smallish airliner.

Rush: Obvious that the murder is in their small number.

Godwinshelley2: At least he didn’t use a gun

Rush: (murderer)

Rush: Yes, GS!

Godwinshelley2: Nice to see Mantan “in action”

Rush: BB…meet Lena Franklin.

Rush: terpsechoean – Relating to dance.
Lena Franklin: “I’ll have you know that Miss La fern is an expert exponent of the terpsichorean art and a premier danseuse.”

Louise: Funny Rush

Rush: That was a new word for me when I looked it up.

Rush: It would be fun to have lena meet Number Four Son, Edward!

Cdirus: I don’t think I ever caught that word in other viewings of this movie

hounder: my lf what big words you know

Godwinshelley2: Ha that would be good

Rush: What murderer would “come clean”?

Louise: How could they send out a parachute without opening the door?

Rush: Hounder, Mr. Webster knew…I just looked!

Rush: 🙂

Rush: Look for “DB Coper.”

Rush: (Cooper)

Louise: Is there no concept of jurisdiction for Charlie Chan?

hounder: brb dog walk

Rush: In a plane, I would guess it could be a federal case.

Rush: maybe no in 1949?

Rush: It seems that San Francisco would be CC’s jurisdiction by now.

Godwinshelley2: Well the gangsters in the 30s would cross the state line to get away

Rush: He seems to have made a permanent move there.

Louise: Is CC still a Fed at this point?

Rush: Yes, GS.

Rush: I think not, Louise.

Rush: It seems that with the end of the war, Chan became a private citizen again.

hounder: wonder what mrs chan thought about the relocation?

Godwinshelley2: Rush had indicated there may have been a passing of Mrs. Chan that precipitated the move

Rush: Wanda has a mean voice.

Rush: Yes, GS.

hounder: ah so gs, but who cares for the younger children?

Rush: We stopped hearing about both she and Tommy at about the same time.

Godwinshelley2: There were aunts and uncles in Hawaii

Godwinshelley2: plus the older sibblings

Louise: I don’t like to believe Mrs Chan is dead

Rush: The last we hear NYTHING FROM tOMMY (sON nUMBER tHREE) WAS WHEN THE CABLEGRAM WAS SENT TO cc ABOARD SHIP IN “dANGEROUS mONEY.”.(Sorry about the locked caps!)

hounder: me either louise

Godwinshelley2: I know the mystery of Mrs. Chan is very enticing – I picture her solving crimes in her local neighborhood

Rush: I didn’t want to retype everything!

Godwinshelley2: But they didn’t bring her back for the cartoon

Rush: Well, that would have been in Honolulu, maybe around the Punchbowl Hill area!

Rush: Poor BB.

Rush: He seems to be there when the corpse is found every time!

Godwinshelley2: It’s his “talent”

Louise: That’s why I was confused that Lee was back. It seems like it should have been Tommy by now.

Rush: BB seems to have gotten used to that happening.

Louise: Maybe Roland Winter wan’t as popular as the previous Chans and they were rtying to draw the original audience back in?

Rush: I liked that line after the Stage Manager said: “What about the show???”

Godwinshelley2: did I hear correctly that a lot of Fox films are being moved to the Disney vault

Rush: Lt. Ruark: “I’ve seen it!”

Rush: Chase music!

Rush: When did you hear that, GS?

Godwinshelley2: In the last couple of weeks – circulating on the facebook Turner Classic Movie Fan page

Godwinshelley2: Disney is moving films to their vault – so they will control when/if things get released

Rush: HM.

Rush: Sounds plausible.

Rush: I would think that Disney would have a great facility.

Godwinshelley2: I think when they say “vault” they mean they control them – like when Disney decides to only release things for a short time then not allow them to be released again for awhile – like Song of the South

Rush: I guess that Disney must own 20th Century-Fox?

Louise: Yes I think Disney bought some of the Fox library

Rush: Oh! Sorry about my being dense there!

Rush: Yes.

Godwinshelley2: It’s a term they use about Disney’s tight control

Rush: They have control over the material then.

Godwinshelley2: And it can be years (or never) to get things released

Rush: “Revenge and profit two of oldest motives for murder and robbery.”

Godwinshelley2: Plus with their new streaming platform – they might not make them available to stream except on their service

Godwinshelley2: or, again, never

Rush: Yes.

Godwinshelley2: It just worried me when I heard about them moving into the Fox films

Rush: Yes. As Disney goes more and more PC, we are very fortunate that the Chan films have already gone onto DVDs.

Godwinshelley2: Yes indeed

Godwinshelley2: chair in back behind Charlie – like Chinese version of the Argyle Chair

Louise: GS: yes, Disney is pulling all their properties from other services after contracts run out

Rush: Ruark should not get too upset with Chan!

Rush: he can use all the help he can getr.

Louise: Gee, Charlie, seeds on winter ground don’t actually die. They just go dormant.

Louise: ouch

Rush: Yes!

Rush: Usually a shot to the stomach is not that quickly fatal!

Rush: Louise: 🙂

Rush: Chan makes trips to various California counties.

Rush: That would take some driving!

Godwinshelley2: I guess Delaware used to be quite the spot to slip off to get married – guess we didn’t ask a lot of questions

Rush: Recall the Laurel and Hardy movie where Ben Turpin was the Justice of the Peace!

Godwinshelley2: Ah Ben was always great

Rush: Yes, GS?

Rush: Yes, he was!

Godwinshelley2: When he would act up on set, I’ve heard the director would say he would pray to god to uncross his eyes, and he would do what he was told.

hounder: be careful. old film burns well

Louise: He’s using a large format camera

Rush: Well, what happened in the L&H film, Turpin’s character was so cross-eyed that he accidentally married Hardy to Laurel rather than Oliver’s fiancee!

Rush: FIRE!

Rush: (Cough…)

Cdirus: Aim for the base of the flames!

Louise: Charlie is not coughing

Rush: BB is very active in this one, beyond the usual comic relief.

Rush: CD: Yes!

Godwinshelley2: Hey they were married on the same day as my husband and I – different year but same date

Rush: HM!

hounder: cool gs

Rush: July 21.

Godwinshelley2: yep

Rush: That was also the birthday of a friend of mine in the past.

Godwinshelley2: A good date

Rush: And…the date of the first setting foot on the Moon.

Rush: Indeed!

Godwinshelley2: That was before I got married

Rush: We see that Chan has a home in his new city.

Rush: Actually, CC had quite a connection to San Francisco.

Rush: Especially in the Biggers books.

Godwinshelley2: So the films located him in Hawaii

Rush: What I don’t quite get is why BB and Lena are aboard for this reenactment.

Louise: Good question Rush

hounder: good question rush

Louise: 3 apparently charming ladies

Rush: I guess they might be there to assist. CC with BB and Lena with Wanda?

Godwinshelley2: How many buttons on that jacket?

Rush: A full set!

Louise: did no one check to see if someone boarded with a gun?

Rush: Seems not!

Rush: Body count tonight: 4?

Louise: Dad! Should be Pop!

Rush: Seems Lee is not using “Pop” much anymore?

Louise: Mr. Anderson, you are guilty

hounder: maybe he grew up and thinks dad is more mature?

Rush: Thought I heard a dog bark then!

Godwinshelley2: I did too

Rush: True, Hounder.

Rush: Another person who should have been searched before boarding.

hounder: anderson is assuming that the plane is flight worthy

Godwinshelley2: and it has enough gas

Rush: Note the cabin shaking while the plane taxis.

Rush: Pretty realistic.

Louise: Dude barely fits in the cabin

Louise: Oh, like there would be a parachute to fit him

Godwinshelley2: And those seats were before they started squeezing them for size

Rush: Botched getaway!

Rush: Louise: 🙂
