Charlie Chan Family Chat Archive for the year 2018

Welcome to our collected Chat Room text record from our Charlie Chan Family Monday Evening Chat and Film Viewing for the year 2018. Unfortunately, there is no chat text available for any of the Chats listed for this year, however, the title of the featured film for each date along with any other available information is presented is listed below:
1/2/2018: Behind that Curtain (“HAPPY NEW YEAR, as we kick off our Charlie Chan Film Tour for 2018!…”) (“…Our initial film will be Behind That Curtain, with E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. In this adaptation of Earl Derr Biggers’ story of the same name, Charlie Chan, as was the practice in the initial ‘Charlie Chan’ movies, the Chinese detective plays a very minor role in the plot, appearing at the very final stages of the picture. Produced in 1929, this was Fox Films’ first ‘Chan’ film.”) (Extra: “Also, we resume our practice of offering a weekly ‘extra,’ which will be an encore of the 1936 radio dramatization of The Landini Murder Case, which was an adaptation, starring Walter Connolly, of Earl Derr Biggers’ Keeper of the Keys, which is the only Biggers Chan Story never to have been made into a film. We begin with Episode 9, as the first eight are presently lost to us, unfortunately.”)
1/8/2018: Eran Trece (There Were Thirteen) (“WELCOME, as we move into the first month of our yearlong Charlie Chan Film Tour for 2018! This week, we will be sharing Eran Trece [There Were Thirteen], the Spanish language copy’ of the first actual film in the Chan series proper, Charlie Chan Carries On. As the latter movie is one of the four ‘lost’ Charlie Chan pictures, we are very fortunate to have available to us a very reasonable ‘facsimile,’ which stars Manuel Arbo as Charlie Chan. A nearly identical script was used, and the same sets and stock footage were most probably employed, so, if we use our imagination, and picture Warner Oland saying Mr. Arbo’s dialogue, we have the next best thing, perhaps!”) (Extra: Radio drama – The Landini Murder Case, Episode 10)

As we watch our film for this week, Charlie Chan at the Race Track, we will be drawing at random the numbers of each of the 24 horses taking part in the actual race. Each person in attendance will receive at least one, probably two numbers. As the results of the race in Melbourne come in later, we will know who holds the ‘winning ticket.
