05-15 18:31

Mike n Rachel in DC:

05-15 18:31

Rush:

Good here, too!

05-15 18:31

Duane:

05-15 18:31

Matt:

Hello M & R!

05-15 18:31

Rush:

Mike and rachel!

05-15 18:32

Duane:

Hello Mike n Rachel

05-15 18:32

Rush:

Good evening!

05-15 18:32

Rush:

Greatr to see everyone so early!

05-15 18:33

Mike n Rachel in DC:

We are looking forward to the extras this evening.  They look very interesting!

05-15 18:33

Matt:

They do!

05-15 18:34

Mike n Rachel in DC:

Paris in the 20s and 30s was very interesting musically–curious to see the old footage of the city from that era

05-15 18:34

Rush:

I am not sure that one wasn’t shared before when we watched “Paris,” but it’s a nice one.

Worthy of a second look!

05-15 18:34

Mike n Rachel in DC:

Absolutely.

05-15 18:34

Matt:

Oui=Oui!

05-15 18:34

Rush:

I was thinking about it over dinner.

05-15 18:35

Rush:

I have been working on our presentation of the DAILY Chan comics.

05-15 18:36

Mike n Rachel in DC:

are there daily comics available now, Rush?

05-15 18:36

Rush:

Lots of scanning to do, and there will be “holes” which mostly can be filled bu “facsimiles.”

05-15 18:37

Mike n Rachel in DC:

just took a look…it seems the collection is growing!

05-15 18:37

Rush:

Yes, from October 1938 to about august of 1939.

It is definitely a work in progress!

05-15 18:37

Rush:

I will be fillibng in some of the facsimiles of 1939 with scans of actual ones.

05-15 18:38

Mike n Rachel in DC:

Nice, Rush.  Well the comics are about caught up to where we are with the films now.

05-15 18:38

Rush:

Ah!

i guess so!

05-15 18:40

Rush:

Interestingly, I am not sure that I have seen anything from 1941 or 1942 either original or copies.

05-15 18:40

Mike n Rachel in DC:

Very exciting almost-plane-crash in the August comics.

Maybe there was a wartime hiatus?

05-15 18:41

Rush:

Well, it seems that the war brought the series to a close, perhaps?

Not sure, but I saw that mentioned someplace.

05-15 18:42

Rush:

Maybe Andriola the artist was called up to serve?

I think he would have been the right age.

05-15 18:43

Rush:

I had never thought of that, but perhaps.

05-15 18:44

Mike n Rachel in DC:

Aha.

05-15 18:44

Mike n Rachel in DC:

I think the draft got kicked into high gear around 39-40.  That’s when my dad got called up…

05-15 18:45

Rush:

Yes.

05-15 18:45

Mike n Rachel in DC:

Quick check:  Started in 1940.

05-15 18:46

Rush:

I looked at his bio and no sign of military servive.

05-15 18:46

Mike n Rachel in DC:

Hm.

05-15 18:46

Rush:

So, maybe he wanted to move on to another strip.

05-15 18:46

Mike n Rachel in DC:

Well if he had been drafted he would have been in WW2.

05-15 18:46

Rush:

Oh, yes.

05-15 18:46

Mike n Rachel in DC:

…maybe for more $$?

05-15 18:46

Rush:

He was nearly 30 when the war started.

Could be.

Always a factor!

Money talks!

05-15 18:47

Mike n Rachel in DC:

Dad got drafted in December of 1940 and finished his training on December 7, 1941.

05-15 18:47

Rush:

WOW!

05-15 18:47

Mike n Rachel in DC:

That’s true

05-15 18:47

Rush:

My dad was in the FBI.

05-15 18:47

Mike n Rachel in DC:

Yeah.  Very few of his “graduating class” survived the war.

05-15 18:47

Rush:

Joined in 1940.

05-15 18:48

Mike n Rachel in DC:

I bet that was an interesting job during the war!

05-15 18:48

Rush:

He was in DC and met my mom there.

05-15 18:48

Mike n Rachel in DC:

Awww…the romance of DC.  Rachel giggles

05-15 18:49

Rush:

My mom applied after high school and was accepted.

05-15 18:49

Mike n Rachel in DC:

It worked for us, too!

05-15 18:49

Rush:

She did secretarial type work, working with files, etc.

Yes, Mike!

05-15 18:49

Mike n Rachel in DC:

A two-FBI-agent family?  Wow.

05-15 18:50

Rush:

She wasn’t an agentBut one of the workforce.

05-15 18:50

Mike n Rachel in DC:

Right.  Dad was an agent?

05-15 18:50

Rush:

Yes.

05-15 18:51

Mike n Rachel in DC:

Have to remember that when “Charlie Chan in the Secret Service” rolls around.

05-15 18:51

Rush:

I have a picture on my wall of him at the target range at Quantico, Va.

05-15 18:51

Rush:

05-15 19:07

Mike n Rachel in DC:

well, his master plan was to get Germany in a war with the Soviet Union, but Stalin saw through that  and made a non-aggression pact w/Hitler

05-15 19:08

Louiuse:

How could they have been so ignorant?

05-15 19:09
