Rush: I can imagine!
Rush: And supposting a charity is always good!
Matt1: We’ll probably do the 50 mile, rather than the 100 and see how we do
Rush: Still…50 miles is 50 miles!

Mike n Rachel in DC: Hi MDA
mda19083: hello my chan friends
Hawaii_Steve: Rush, yes, please. Atwill first.
Rush: Then, perhaps you can note things about the Waikiki travelogue as YOU are the EXPERT!
Dona: Hello MDA
Rush: MDA!
Hawaii_Steve: Aloha MDA.
Rush: WELCOME!
Rush: This holiday used to be called Decoration day. it is mentioned in “Charlie Chan at the Circus.”
Hawaii_Steve: Ah, Rush. Most interesting.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Charles Ives wrote a very striking piece for orchestra called “Decoration Day” too, Rush. π
Rush: It was originally a day when people would place flowers on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers.
Rush: Yes, Mike?
Rush: Hence, they would “decorate” the graves.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Yes…he’s a huge figure in American music. His father was a band leader in the Civil War (Union). You can find all kinds of Ives history in Danbury, CT.
Dona: That is very interesting Rush
Rush: Interesting, Mike!
Dona: Yes, interesting Mike.
Mike n Rachel in DC: More info for those interested: https://www.umwindorchestra.com/single-post/2016/04/02/Charles-Ives-Decoration-Day
Rush: I enjoy things historic, Dona!
Hawaii_Steve: Yesterday, there was a ceremony at the Waikiki Natatorium. It was built as a tribute to the men who served during WW1.
Rush: I clicked on the link, Mike…and will save for later!
mda19083: I was intrigued when reading about this evening’s specials in the email blast yesterday
Rush: TYSM!
Rush: Yes, Mda.
Dona: I do to Rush. My grandfather was a high school history teacher.

Rush: Steve, would you honor us with an intro to it, please?

Hawaii_Steve: Yes. will do.
Rush: I have seen that one, Mike! Excellent!

Hawaii_Steve: Just a flavor of the times. Thank you.

Rush: A still shot….
Hawaii_Steve: Yes, Rush.
Nothere: So Rich that wouldn’t have anything to do with Kay?
mda19083: Oh Kay!
Rush: Rifling through Pop’s mail!
Rush: Not a good idea!
Godwinshelley2: saw an episode of “My Little Margie” – with shots of Royal Hawaiian hotel shot from the other angle – away from Diamond Head – it was interesting
Hawaii_Steve: Are the waves moving during the opening credits?
Matt1: #2 & #7
Rush: Jimmy and Willie.
Nothere: So how many world sahttering cases does Charlie have to solve for a promotion to captain?
Rush: Chan seems to be recovering from a cold.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Charlie sounds like he has a cold.
Rush: Good question, NT!
Rush: maybe Chan’s secret service work during the War halted that promotion?
Mike n Rachel in DC: He’s probably solved enough cases, but his attendance record is lousy. Always on leave solving crimes elsewhere.
Rush: Plus, CC might have, through humility, declined a promotion!
Nothere: Mystery already solved like unfilled balloon. Flat.
Rush: Yes, Mike! That’s so!
Matt1: Saved by the door
Rush: Inspector Duff!
Rich Maine: Yes Matt
Rush: Willie displays a fad of the era.
Rush: A “beanie” with attached buttons.
Godwinshelley2: I refer to that style of jacket as a “Ricky Ricardo” jacket
Rush: π
Mike n Rachel in DC: I like your explanation, Rush. He declined the promotion. Would have had to spend too much time in Honolulu and couldn’t have all the exciting adventures. Also, it would have cut into his movie career. π
hounder: willie wears a funny hat…… and should he be wearing iit inside?
Rush: His “beanie.”
Rush: Popular at the time!
Dona: Archie
Rush: Right!
Godwinshelley2: a jughead beanie
Rush: Yes.
Nothere: Well Hounder when robbing police heAadquarters you need something to cover your face.
Rush: True!
Rich Maine: Cue the can….
Rush: Uh…OH….
mda19083: close that window
Rush: We will need the OFFICIAL declaration!
Mike n Rachel in DC: I’m just saying that this has to be the least secure police headquarters in the world…theives going through mail, murderers lurking about…sheesh
hounder: y’all got to quit leaving windows open for the bad guys.
Godwinshelley2: Knives and bullets wizzing through windoes
Rush: YES, Hounder!
Nothere: What do you expect when they keep the windows open?
Rush: Garoted!!!
Hawaii_Steve: Tonight’s film is based on the 1930 novel by Earl Derr Biggers “Charlie Chan Carries On.”
Rush: yes!
Rich Maine: Yup not very secure building
Rush: We have a “remake” of “Charlie Chan Carries On” (1931) with Oland in the lead.
Matt1: <tin can>
Nothere: Matt your on
Mike n Rachel in DC: pulmotor squad π
Nothere: This one just got personal
Hawaii_Steve: The murder of Insp. Duff differs from the novel and the film.
Rush: I’ll add a can image…BUT, we may be a little premature…
Dona: I was worried about my memory
Mike n Rachel in DC: pulmotor squad still working…
Rush: Dona: π
Nothere: The pulmotor squad never stops working.
Rush: Lionel Atwill!
Rich Maine: Mr Waverly appears
Rush: And, him, too!
Hawaii_Steve: Yes, Mr. Atwill, indeed.
Mike n Rachel in DC: NO ONE expects the pulmotor squad. Our chief weapon is surprise…
Rush: By way of “Charlie Chan in City in darkness.”
Nothere: Before that little incident at his house sent him to poverty row.
mda19083: and conjecture
Rush: Not for certain…
Nothere: I’ll be too drunk to commit the murder. Not that there will be another murder.
Rush: This watchman reminds me of Gus the Fireman on “Leave it to Beaver”!
Mike n Rachel in DC: Great alibi, NT
mda19083: i know that guy
Rich Maine: He is like the detective in Malibu!
Mike n Rachel in DC: The house detective? He’s in a Bogart film.
Rush: Matt?
Rush: A victim….
Nothere: But did he pay the early check out fee?
Matt1: <tin can>
Rush:
Mike n Rachel in DC: Does housekeeping charge extra for corpse removal? Or is that included in the deluxe package?
Rush: CC is “backed up” by the hotel detective!
Nothere: I hope Inspector Duff isn’t upset he didn’t get the full tin can
Rush: Well, Mike….probably at least, no refund on the stay!
Rush: Dimes…
Rush: “Symbol of ancient betrayal.”
Mike n Rachel in DC: The bible story? Where Jesus is betrayed for 30 pieces of zinc?
Nothere: Better than copper
Rush: How could anyone have missed the drag marks???
Rush: yes, NT!
Nothere: In a Chan film? If your name isn’t Chan your liabel to miss anything.
Rush: TRUE!!!
Mike n Rachel in DC: Cheap betrayal rates these days. I want 30 pieces of molybdenum at least.
Rush: yes, Mike!!!
hounder: ..
Matt1: <cuckoo>
Rush: True!
Rich Maine: I need sleep!
Nothere: So can he order different sheets for the bed?
Rush: I doubt he’d have the strength to strangle anyone!
Rush: yes, NT!
Rush: π
Mike n Rachel in DC: Have him followed? By whom?
Rush: An HPD detective?
Nothere: Your mustache may be bigger, but I have a monocole.
Rush: SCREAM!
mda19083: susie
Rich Maine: The fur appears
Matt1: Face only a mother can love?
Nothere: Don’t take this woman to a horror movie.
Rush: Well…it DID snap her out of it!
hounder: peeping thomas
Rush: This description should stand up in court!
Rush: Yes, Hounder!
Rush: White faux fur….
Mike n Rachel in DC: Are those mink pajamas that she’s wearing?
Rush: JIMMY!
Nothere: Well he has used other faces.
Dona: Oh Jimmy
Rush: An evening robe?
Rush: Fingerprints ruined.
Mike n Rachel in DC: Touch nothing!
Rush: Exactly!
Rich Maine: 35! Ha!

Rush: Disappeared….
hounder: those coats are making it look cold or damp on deck
Rush: Yes.
Nothere: Chan cruises
Rush: They have successfully portrayed the foggy, damp condition!
Nothere: Disappearing passengers, doors that open and close by themselves. I want a refund.

Dona: lol
Rich Maine: How did that fit under door?
